2005 fx4 tire suggestion

It's come that time... I'm still running stock rims and in need of some new tires. What say you? Go with oem replacements or something more aggressive?

I have to admit the factory tires lasted quite awhile, I'm at 52k and probably could run another 5-10k if i wanted to be brave.

um, never go with oem replacements. This aint the place for that

If you are planning on not leveling it and just keeping it stock find you a solid AT in a 285/65R18

go with a 275/70/18! General Grabber At2's! They too are a great tire! And cheaper then the BFG AT! I have had nothing but great luck with those tires!

I second the 275/70/18 size, nice size that will fill that wheel well out a little more, I would spend the extra $6 or so and get BFG All Terrains though (opposed to the grabbbers on tirerack). They are a proven tire that looks great, and for some reason this size in particular on tirerack is pretty cheap.

Before I ordered my new tires I had the shop put on a 275/70/18 on my OEM rims with no level kit to see how it fit.The size was great...filled the wheelwells and no rub.I ordered the Nokian Vatiiva's...a little spendy but will last a long time.Should have them next week...will post pics.

Guess I'll have to take a look at the BFG AT's. Just for fun, I looked at the reviews on tirerack (BFG All-Terrain T/A KO, about $20 a tire more expensive than the BFG Rugged Trail T/A i'm running now) and they're all over the place. Some love them, some hate them. Ahh the internet...

And a pic of my truck when it was actually clean the other day, because we all like pics right?

A 285x65x18 BFG,Nitto or Toyo AT would be a good choice. These are close to 33 inches tall. If the truck is leveled you can go a little taller.

The stock BFG Rugged Trail tires are in my opinion JUNK! Compare the AT2's and the BFG AT's on tire rack.. The Generals are cheaper, Have a better factory warranty, and have better reviews. They are truly a great tire. Either choice would be great. If all you want is a little taller tire then the 275/70 is your best bet.

If you are wanting a stock replacement you should check out the Goodyear Silent Armors. They have great ratings in all categories and good reviews. I love mine.

Since you have the FX4, you might want to consider the Toyo Open Country M/Ts... Their an outstanding tire...

I haven't leveled my truck, it's a bone stock FX4. I was just looking for a good replacement tire, maybe something a bit more aggressive that wasn't too noisy and still performed well on the street. I don't go off road all that much.

Thanks for all of the input so far, leaning toward the BFG AT or General Grabber AT2's. Looks like very similar tires and rating, with the General Grabbing being only a few bucks cheaper.

I do like the looks of the Toy MT's but I'm worried about the noise and handling at highway speeds.

Your Rugged Trails aren't much good for an AT tire, don't let those leave a bad taste in your mouth about BF Goodrich. BFG All Terrains are IMO on of the best looking tires on the (for an AT) nice square sidewall and they wear like iron. The last set I had I put on 85,000 kms (canadian) on them and they were still not too bad when I sold the truck. They do get a little louder as they get further on in tread life but it nothing like a MT. Generals are a great tire but for the extra couple of dollars I think it is definalty worth it to buy the BFG, they have a great history and a great treadlife.
