understandable! dont overload yourself with stuff to do. the tq you get is worth it also. is the headers you found painted or ceramic coated. mine for 300 were painted. ceramic coated are more but well worth it.
"Standard Black Paint Finish" in the exact words :/

Yours has pi heads so it would def beat mine. They didn't put pi heads on the 4six in the f series until 2001. Does your gramps's have a 5four or 4six and what kind of cab does it have.
He has a 5.4 crew cab

They're 305/70r16. (33x12.50) You prolly need bigger than a 16" rim tho. If not they have 5k on them and i'm selling them CHEAP.

Well thats heavier than yours. I would have to guess if you guys hooked them, he'd prolly pull you maybe. I'm not to sure on the newer trucks 04+. I've never even riden in one, but i would love to have like an 04fx4.

his lariat probably doesnt have a lsd which hurts traction. fx4's came with an lsd and that makes a huge difference in pulling someone. plus 04's and newer have an electrical traction control that extremely hurts off idle bursts!

Thats the one thing I hate about Ford. It seems the newer the vehicles get the more bad *** they look but the worse the performance is.....

Its the same thing with the powerstrokes. The old ones are 100x better than the new ones

But my grandfather's also has the "on-the-fly" electronic 4x4 system which doesn't seem to be as strong as locking hubs or transfer case shifter for some reason

absolutely! all the electronic crap is crap. but you can maintain it with a programmer, the traction can be turned off.

there is nothing we can do about the locking hubs. i wish that would have never left.
