Question Ceramic VS Semi metallic

2007 F150,58K miles

I am about to install some Wagner Thermo Quiet pads on my truck.I have always used the Wagner TQ semi metallic pads but have noticed Wagner now has ceramics.Any opinions about the ceramics over the semi metallics?

I just put the semi-metallic on this weekend....very noticeable difference...Never used the ceramic pads on anything I have ever owned. It may be an urban-myth, but I have heard that the ceramic will chew up rotors...Not a known fact of mine, just hearsay.

I put the wagner thermoquiets on my truck before I sold it, to dang bad cause I was washing wheels 3-5 times a month. With the TQ's it was when I wanted to shine em up, brake dust wasn't a issue.

My hopes, even with the S-Met, is that I dont have to scrub my wheels ever again. The OEM pads sucked so bad. I hated to trash pads that were only 1/2 gone, but I'm hoping I can make up my $50 in pads when I don't have to buy as much wheel cleaner. I was noticing too that my tires were starting to turn brown b/c all of the dust.

My first set of semi-metallic Wagners were changed out at 80,000 and they could have easily gone to 100,000. That is with no dust. So I replaced with the same pads, see no reason to even consider the ceramic. Long lasting, great stopping and no dust. What would the ceramic improve?

I have the TQ ceramics and they are dust free as well. I tow a lot and ceramic supposedly handle heat better so that is why I went with them. No rotor issues so far with probably about 15000 on the pads.

I bought the ceramics for my truck, no issue at all with dust, wheels are never hot from hard braking, rotors are in fine condition.

Only $10 more for ceramic. Not sure if they are still doing the $30 rebate, but I bought mine in time for sure, $60 for these awesome pads.

82K on my Akebono ceramics on factory rotors. No rotor issues or concerns with pad wear.

Some semi-metallics can be rather dusty, namely Raybestos. They are as bad as Ford's factory original. But I believe Raybestos actually manufactured the pads Ford put on the 04 - 08's.

Flip a coin and pick one of the 2 you're interested in. I'm sure you'll be happy with either.

I recently (a year ago) changed from semi-metallics to ceramics for a bit more money, like $10 and noticed better stopping. We aren't talking about alot but you will notice a bit better braking. Dust seems to be the same, which was almost non existant with the semi's prior. We'll see how much longer they last but it was a thumbs up purchase.

I'm in the same boat of needing new pads pretty soon and have absolutely noooooo desire to put oems back on. I also tow quite a bit, and heard that ceramics tear up rotors so I was/am nervious. Anybody else tow and use these tq ceramics?

I was totally going to just get the semi's but if nobody else has any problems with these ceramics then maybe my mind could be persuaded.

Would cross-drilled and or vented rotors help with all ceramic pads, or even semi metallic pads for that matter? If so, what would be some decent rotors?

I just put semi-metallics on my truck its been ~1000miles and no dust seriously. Just dirt from the road. and thats it. all I can say is they are awesome stopping distance and stopping power.

I've been reading for a while and it seems like 9 out-of 10 on here are using Wagner Thermo Quiets.

I am also changing........to carbon metalic......but the Performance Friction pad. INFO HERE

They're on my floor board now and should be on in the next 5-10 days along with new front rotors.
