Need some help on some decisions

Im sure there are some posts on here about this, but more or less trying to find some pictures i guess. I guess we'll start off with what i have. I have a Black 2004 F-150 FX4 Supercab.

Im basically looking at saving up (which will take me a few months) for some mods to my truck. Im looking at getting a 4" suspension lift. Im trying to decide if i want 17", 18" or 20" wheels. Im thinking of going with 17" MB gunner 6 wheels with BFG A/T 35" tires. What im wondering is if some people that have a lift with the BFG A/T 35" tires could post some pictures with them. I tried searching but really couldn't find any. Also, if anyone has any other good aggressive tire pictures for some ideas. I got a few months to decide. Im not looking at a real aggressive tire, because i don't really do a lot of off roading but do a small amount of it considering i live in a real small town, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't be much help with pics, but the gunner 6's are very sharp wheels! I think a 17" rim is the smallest you can go on an 04-08. If it was me I would go with an 20" rim, I'm thinking you prefer a smaller rim though so I'd vote for 18's

Thanks. I think your right on the 18's. Im not real into the bigger wheels. I kinda like the look of the smaller wheels with the big tires. Im definately sure of 35" tires, just havent really decided on a tire.

Also, i really don't know much at all about tire and wheel sizes, wondering if someone can help me out, because i really don't know anything about offset, backspacing or really anything like that. Like i said im probably going with a 4" suspension, so what would i need for 35" tires and 18" Gunner 6 wheels?

Ok...

I have 17" chrome MB gunner 6 wheels w/35" BFG AT's...(315-70-17)
I had to install a 3" lift/level kit I bought on ebay
which included front coil spacers and rear add-a-leaf's...
tires only rub in a tight parking lot slightly on the wheel well liner...
the reason I went to smaller wheel and bigger tire...
-I like the look
-less chance to damage wheel with a large sidewall for off road and winter driving in Chicago...
(I have seen many people with 20-22" wheels with damage)
-price...$$$...35" tires are not cheap but bigger wheel = more$$$...
(4) 315-70-17 = $1,000 vs (4) 285-65-20 = $1,500...
(wheels are usually only $25-$50 more each for 20's)
-plus the wheel width and offset is critical for tire clearance depending on how much you lift your truck...not to mention how far the tire will stick out of the wheel well...

now the negative...
-be prepared to loose about 2-3 miles per gallon...depending how you drive
each wheel/tire combo weighs about 100 lbs...
-you will loose a little performance too but I made that up with banks exhaust, volant CAI and a superchip tuner
-I also have just replaced my wheels...after 14 months the chrome finish was pitted and would not come clean...
I bought my wheels/tires online through discount tire direct on ebay
and they sent me new replacement wheels free...
I just have to send them the old ones back...no charge for shipping...
and I have to pay for mounting and balancing
no biggie...I wanted to install tire sensors on them anyway...
-I think it was just a plating problem with those specific wheels
because in the summer I run a set of MB chrome kl-77 20"...
and they have no problems...yet!!!

Hope this helps...

325-65-18...35"...$329 each..not online
305-65-18...33"...$1,260/set

$784 set of 4 18" chrome gunner 6 wheels
over $2,000 for 18" wheels w/ 33's

(I paid $1,750 for my stuff w/chrome valve stems shipped to my door ready to mount!!!)
about $50 more for chrome gorilla wheel locks at local discount tire...

discount tire direct on ebay is awesome
-free shipping
-free mounting and blanacing with wheel/tire purchase
-no sales tax outside Arizona
-includes any warrenty and free rotation they offer at any local discount tire

no complaints...
almost 20 years of driving and owned 10 cars...
(only 2 were not Fords...GMC Syclone and Grand Prix GT
& only 3 were not black)...
I have purchased 3 sets of Bfg at TA's for different trucks...even 2wd ranger
(due to my heavy foot and lousy weather in chicago I still have 350 lbs of sand bags in the bed for traction)
and 3 other sets of radial, comp ta and rugged trail's...
very pleased with all

why???

I bought 1 set of Firestone firehawk tires for the Syclone only because that's what came on the truck...mistake...after $800 back in 1995...I put 200 miles on the tires and got a flat...went back to firestone and was told I didn't buy the warrenty so it wasn't there problem...BS...finally got him to sell me a new tire for cost...a-hole...never went back...
numerous problems with goodyear tires that came on the pontiac...
was told by dealer there was a problem with the tires but no recal and the only way to fix it was to buy new tires...at 22,000 miles!!!...no thanks

then after my ford -firestone recall on my ranger I vowed never to buy a tire that din't say BF goodrich on it...

I talked to many people about size and type of tire for on/off road and most everyone said Bfg AT was a no brainer...

there are more agressive tires that will offer better traction but mor than likely you will loose life faster, handling and they will be noisy on the road...

Just my 2-cents

Ok, i appreciate it very much. I think il take your advice and go with the BFG A/T's. The machined anthricite color, how dark would that be by chance?

As for backspacing and offset, would i find that out when i put the suspension lift on or? Im sorry, just not too familiar with this stuff lol.

do you mean the black and machined wheel???
never been a big fan of black wheels on black vehicle...IMO
(harder to keep clean/glossy because you can't polish a machined wheel)
They almost blend in with all the black and are bland...
I understand some like the all black look...not me
I love black with a dash of chrome...not bling
I think all chrome handles, mirrors, gas door, wheels, steps and grill on a black anything is UGLY!!!

Yea i agree with you. I like some chrome, but a lot seems pretty ugly, and also not a fan of the black rims with black truck. The anthricite machined said its like a darker silver colored, but wasn't sure how they'd look in person. I was looking at the discount tire and that was one of the colors.

Intimidator, how wide are your tires? Unfortunately i don't really know the tire sizes too well. Because i like a wide tire, just not sticking out too far.

tires are almost 12 1/2 inches wide...
they are the exact same tires that come on H2 Hummer's
find one online at a local car dealer and go check it out when they are closed
to see the size and style...

here are a few pics to see how far they stick out...

I have fatory chrome side step bars and the tires don't stick out as far...

Ok, thanks Intimidator for all your help, you definately made this easier for me. I was worried because i don't know a lot about tires and wheels. Also i absolutely love the way your truck looks with those tires and wheels.
