Brake Guards Necessary? Source?

Well, I FINALLY got my front rotors off tonight. Lots of PB Blaster, lots of hammer whacks, and cutting of the discs with a cutoff wheel and sawzall, and I got them to pop loose. Funny thing about the cutting: I think the vibration helped break loose the rust because on neither one of them did I end up cutting through far enough to split the rotor as intended. Very odd.

Anyway, the passenger-side rotor guard (the plate behind the disc) is rusted through in a couple spots. Wondering if it's worth replacing, or if I should not worry about it. I'm betting it's a dealer-only part.

.... just thought of something: If there's enough good material there, maybe I'll just pop-rivet another piece in.

Truck is mainly winter- and foul-weather-driven, but not off-roaded much if at all.

Thanks.

Andy

Had a thought on this today and ended up patching with JB Weld putty from the tool box. Good 'nuff for now, and the price was right..
