looking for thoughts about noise
I have an '02 supercab 4x4 with 4 wheel ABS.
last week the warning light came on for ABS, I thought no big deal I probably need a sensor. this weekend I used the truck to go get some feed. I noticed a definite noise from the drivers side front tire area. I don't think it was u-joint like sound. same RPM as tire, definitely a "rotating" noise. My first thought was bearing/hub assembly but the more I think about it I think it may be related to ABS. book says front sensor is located in steering knuckle. Any idea how large sensor is, how hard to get to, is there a way to check it?
Also the noise cannot be heard from outside of the truck. that was the reason I started thinking it may not be the bearing. Every bearing I've known of that went out you could definitely hear from 20 feet away.
this sounds almost like a brake pad dragging kind of sound. doesn't change if I hit the brakes at all though.
