Tire rotation...when?
Tire rotation...when?
Kinda like oil change intervals...I have heard everything from 5K miles to 7K miles. When I got my new 18" Mastercraft tires put on in April my tire dealer said rotate every 6K miles. Honestly I think I will have mine rotated at 5K mile intervals since I run 4 miles of very rough rock roads every day and the rear tires tend to really "chunk" out faster.
What have you heard...when do you rotate yours??

I rotate my tires usually every 3 thousand since its free and ,I wont go over 4 thousand. But since I have the stockers on my truck right now and trying to wear them down a little more I have been doing about 7500-8000.
Fords recommendation is 3k mile oil change interval for "severe duty" applications. IE; farm work, stop and go city driving, heavy towing, excessivel idling. 5K for "normal service" applications.. Tire rotation every 3k, 5K if you're doing the 5K oil interval....
From my experience, I think they upped the rotation interval to 3k in an attempt to improve customer satisfaction.. In some vehicles, especially Rangers, people would experience chopping in thier front tires if they rotated every 6K. Granted it was minimal, but to eliminate that possiblity, I think they made it every 3K
I personally do 5K on oil and tire rotation. I see no chopping in the tires, and they are all worn pretty evenly.
On a side note, I use the bottled Motorcraft oil. Granted I get it at a discount, but I would recommend NOT using bulk oil. If you've ever seen what the bottom of an empty drum looks like, you'd agree..

It'll also depend on the type of tire you have, i.e. M/T or A/T. I usually start to remind myself around 5k but then again that changes some due to what type of miles they were that I put on. I also use the tread wear as a indication. Once I notice the fronts are starting to "curve" or the backs are pitting somewhat in the middle, although slightly, it's time for me.
