Factory Front Pad Life?

My 2005 Screw w/ the 5.4L has about 18K miles. I'm starting to hear a slight squeal from the front occasionally when braking at low speed (5-15 mph). This is the sort of thing I would usually inspect myself right away, but there have been a million things to do, and even pulling the front wheels has to be worked in to my schedule. Just to get a consensus, is there any chance the front pads are hitting the wear indicators at this mileage? I know it doesn't seem likely, but I just had a new motorcycle go down to the backing at 6K. Will appreciate hearing other members' experiences with this so I know what to expect.

I've got about 60,000 miles in my 02 F150 (got it in 2005 with 15,000 miles on it), and I've still got the factory brake pads with plenty of material on them. Maybe my driving habits are tame, or maybe the factory pads are just good, not sure.

I changed the front pads on my 2001 F-150 XLT at about 63,000 miles - mostly for the reason that I didn't want to have to change them during a snowey winter. About 1/16" was left above the metal wear indicators.

I don't tow anything and I seldom fill up the bed with stuff.

Why don't you pull the pads and look at them? The wear indicators on an F-150 are pieces of sheet metal on the inboard pad which will squeek when you get to the wear limits.

Wagner Thermo Quiets Semi-Metallic should be a great alternative. Way less dust supposedly compared to the dust-making pads from the factory. Either way, if they are bad or not, if you are going to inspect them while apart, might as well change them to better pads, if you have the extr $50 or $60.

Local parts stores, here we have autozone, discount, just got a Bennet, etc. Check your local parts stores for the best prices. These are the pads I am getting after reading all of the good about them here.

Ceramics are also great alternative. Less dust and heat. http://www.brakepadwarehouse.com/ceramic-metallic.cfm.
