Brake dust

Why is there so many Ford P/Us out there that have brake dust on the front wheels?

I've seen it on other trucks & I always thought maybe that person rides the brakes.
I've had my truck for 6months & I have brake dust on my wheels. I don't ride my brakes.

So why does the brakes Ford uses produce so much brake dust?

Well, it cant be because of the OEM brake pads. I've changed my front pads, and they still dust pretty good. A lot of hard stopping can do it.

The fronts obviously receive the brunt of the brake work, so they will always have more brake dust than the rears.

I could be because the owners are lazy and don't clean their wheels that well, and eventually the dust builds up.

It's the sorry OEM pads. Many on the site have eliminated the problem by going to a higher quality pad. At 11,000 miles, I eliminated the dust by going to Wagner ThermoQuiets and I have 71,000 miles on them. Very little dust and about 1/3 of the pad remaining. Many have gone to CarQuest Blues with good results and some have gone to ceramic pads.

Ive been meaning to do this, but actually without hijacking I want to thank Bluejay for all his insight on this issue. I too have posted before reguarding brake dusting problems.

Blue has always responded with the Thermoquiet answer, finally one morning I went and got a set so sick and tired of the constant dusting and even liquidation at times of the brake pads.

Ive had them on the fronts now for about a month and im so totally impressed, I haven't cleaned the wheels in about 3 weeks and they still look clean. I have to take them off the truck one day to really dig in the backs and get all the grime from the old pads off em. Probley gonna have to polish them alil too to get all the crud off.

With all that said im thankfull of bluejay and his insight man for the price those thermoquiets are the Shiz they have a 15 dollar rebate going right now too!! BTW when I took off my stock pads at 15,000 miles they looked to be about 1/3 of the way worn or more! Those stock pads are useless.

I had 70,000 miles on my truck when I put on 20x9 Moto Metal 951's and replaced the pads with thermoquiets hoping to eliminate the brake dust issue last Thursday. I just added locking lug nuts tonight and the fronts had a good amount of dust on them already not even a week later. At this point I'm reserving judgement and holding out hope that they need some amount of break-in (btw I didn't replace the rotors) because if it doesn't get better I'm going to be disappointed and will be thinking about going to ceramic. The brake dust on these is crazy, my 2003 was way better I don't get it???

i hate my oem brake pads on my 08 limited..i literally have to clean my wheels everyday so they can stay nice. if i drive 25 miles u can see the dust, only on the front, and i got them white limited wheels. so just imagine what i go thru....lol im thinking bout just switching the front pads to ceramic and from what i read- you gotta change the rotors too... just dont know what the prices run on the parts.

Recommendation: CarboTech Engineering lining, which I have used for about 15+ years and been very happy on multiple full size (V8) cars and trucks. This particular lining has a high friction co-efficient, excellent pedal feel, wear (typically 50,000 to 75,000 miles before replacement is required) and produces less dust than OEM linings. IIRR, I paid about $130 for my last set including shipping. They have a web site at www.ctbrakes.com, but I highly recommend speaking to them by phone for linings that would be best for your application at 877-899-5024 or 704-481-8500.
