Is it really that bad...
to mount a 15.5 wide inch tire on a 9 inch wide rim.
i would like to downsize the rims, when i lift the truck, and im trying to find a decent looking 18x10 rim, but all the ones i like are 18x9
im going with another 6 on top of the body lift, and run 38/15.5 tire
i see alot of pics of guys running 12.5 on stock rims which i think are 7.5 width
i would like to keep my current 7005's but, theres only about an inch of clearance between the tire lug's and the control arm

Yes it is that bad.
Why are you wanting such a wide tire? It's going to look funny anyway with them sticking out so much, kill your mileage, kill your wheel bearings and balljoints, and probably drive like crap. I mean do what you want, but I think you would regret it, assuming you could even get them to fit.

I've seen several people run 15.50 inch wide tires on 10 inch wide wheels, but that's pushing it. I don't think I'd try a 9 inch wide wheel. Running a wide tire on a rim that is too narrow can cause the tire to crown slightly and make the center portion of the tread to wear slightly faster than normal, similar to runing too much air pressure. On the plus side, you should never have to worry about popping a bead.
