Need help with a wheel question

Hey everyone, new guy here (long time lurker, first time poster). Anyways, I'm in the process of adding some mods to the truck...of course new wheels are on the list.

My question is, can someone please explain the offset and backspacing difference to me in "laymen" terms? For example, how far past the fender the wheels will stick out. I've searched the forums, read the posts, seen the wheel illustration, but I am still confused as far as offset and b.s. go.

The wheels I'm looking at come in different b.s. and offsets. Thanks in advance for your help. Stevo

Size: 17 x 9
Bolt Circle: 6x135 (5.31)
Offset: -12
Back space: 4.53

Size: 17 x 9
Bolt Circle: 6x135 (5.31)
Offset: +12
Back space: 5.47

I'm sure others will chime in on this thread.

A 9 inch wide wheel with 4.5 in of BS will stick out 2.5 inchers further than OEM and a 9 inch wide wheel with 5.5 in of BS will stick out 1.5 inches further than OEM.

P.S. Wandell is your best friend when it comes to any questions about wheels and tires.

You nailed it Dark Knight, I would go with the ones with close to 5 1/2 inches of BS. Just my 2 cent's.
