What am I not seeing in these used tires?

I found the tires I have been looking for but I now smell a rat. Tires were originally for sale on BB.BCOFFROAD website. I have talked with the guy and the original price with shipping was to be 450.00 for one month old 305/70/17. Now he wants 525.00 shipped. He was to send me more pics this morning b/c if you look at the single pic there looks to be alot of rubber missing on the edges. now I see he has them listed on the FordF150.net website for 450.00 and they are now 3 months old! He just joined that site yesterday so he could post his tires for sale. Someone tell me why I shouldnt buy these tires. I cant figure out how to post a pic of these tires but if someone would look at these on the f150.net site under wheels and tires I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Since you didn't provide a link, I went searching through this other f150 site and found this thread (most people won't bother doin that much).

http://www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=65593

With all the info you've offered I assume these are the terra grapplers you were looking at. Please show me where in that thread pictures of tires are included.

If you actually want help with your questions, perhaps you should give some info.

You're welcome for my reply, because it's likely the only one you'll get

They are Nittos. Wish I knew how to put these pictures in.

I would just like to know why no one else has jumped all over this deal.

Those are the only two pics I saw. Can't tell much from those, but they look ok to me.

Does the tread depth look ok to you? I know these tires only have 17/32 tread to begin with but I was more concerned with the one pic with the single tire in it. It looks like small pieces of rubber missing right there on the two lugs. Would you give 525.00 for em if those were the tires you wanted? I appreciate you posting those pics for me.

From what I can see, the tread wear doesn't look even, but it does look like lots of tread left. It looks like he may have had them over inflated or on wheels that were too narrow for those tires. It's impossible to tell from those pictures though. Those little notches in the side lugs wouldn't worry me.

Basically, you can't tell anything from those pics though.

I purchased a set of used BFG's from a supposed friend a couple years ago at a good price because he wanted a smaller tire. I soon found out why he wanted to replace the almost new 35's. Apparantly one or more of the tires has a defect and I have a vibration above 55 mph that I cannot get ride of. I'll never buy a set of used tires again. If I would have spent a few hundred more dollars and purchased new tires from my dealer, he would have replaced them with a new set. Live and learn.

Yeah something just doesnt sound right about the whole deal. He's from Georgia so why post on a Canadian website to begin with. Then he changed from one post to another stating different time frames from owning the tires. Anyways thank you for the replies. Just sold my factory tires, Discount gave me some loaners and ordered the 295/70/17 with 17x8 procomp 1089's. Just couldnt pull the string on the 305's with concerns about my tranny. Will post pics when I get then next week.
