Brake Life???

Curious how many mile people are getting out of the stock brakes.

Lets assume no towing and a mix of highway and city driving.

Just looking for a ballpark, this is my first 6,000 pound truck.

There is no reason that your stock pads will last less long than aftermarket ones. I am at about 25,000 miles on the pads I have right now, and all get another 10.

I know my 95 explorer is alot lighter (much smaller pads) than an F150 but I put over 100000 miles on the OEM and the same on Friction Masters. They both looked about the same wear at that milage. I changed the OEM's when they had 1/4 the pad left just because my wife would not drive in the mountains in WV for vacation with the old pads on. LOL

I'm at 50K now with my original brakes. probably about 60-70% city driving. Minimal heavy loads involved.

05 supercrew brakes

Im a little dissapointed with the life of the brakes on this truck. I purchased the truck with 20k on it and brought it back after 3000 miles were put on, to have them adress a few issues. One being the brakes. The dealership replaced both front rotors and callipers , turned the rear rotors on the truck and replaced all the pads and lubed the e brake cables. along with some other work. When I hit 30k , I brought it in for the 30k check up. (over $300). Nothing was mentioned to me as being in need of repair . A couple weeks later while having some tires put on The tire guy told me I needed brakes real bad! I assured him I had just had the truck serviced. But on the way home I turned the radio down and knew right away work was needed. Back to the dealer it went. new back brake pads and one rear caliper and a new right front caliper were needed. Now Its at 61k miles and It needs another set of front rotors and another right front caliper. On top of all this with an appointment made two weeks in advance telling them I was questioning the front caliper again, They didnt have one in stock and couldnt get one in a day, I also scheduled to have the plugs changed and they only had four plugs on hand. So now I lose my truck for three days instead of one while they find the needed parts. Are any of these dealerships on the ball ? Ive had simmilar service issues on my wifes Explorer. You cant get anything done on one trip anymore. FRUSTRATED being driven around in an explorer.

Im at 45k and just rotated the tires pads and rotors look really good a mix of highway city and country driving- new england style so its lots of ups and downs and some light towing I had a 94 bronco before that towed heavly and the brakes were good to almost 100k

My original pads came off at 11,000 as I could no longer put up with the daily wipe off of dust. Had to replace the front rotors at 41,000 due to bearing failure. The replacement pads have 67,000 on them and still lots of pad left. And no dust.

I see you make good use of the coast pedal. I've seen people, who travel a lot of highway and cost to a stop, go 80 to 100k, but your the first to extend that to 150k.

I don't think my pads will make it to 11k, I'm done with this dust, and already bought some new EBS green pads. I'm at 4k now.

I'm just under 152,000 on the originals. I was going to replace the pads a couple of years ago, but the originals still had plenty of material on them. The brake life has a lot to do with how and where you drive. I've never had to replace brake pads on any vehicle I've owned (although I had a taurus that need new or turned rotors every 18,000 miles).

Edit: original brakes, but I'm on the 3rd engine. I would have prefered to have had to replace the brakes.

Me = 148,300

you = 152,000

You win

Of course, apparently we are both still going on the originals, so the final outcome remains to be seen

My '90 Ranger went 210k or 215k.
