Newbie Tire/Rim Question

Just wondering what the advantages of going to a larger or wider tire are?

Is this just an appearnce issue is there performance gains to be made?

Thanks

Wider tire on road means better traction/handling. Taller tire offroad means better traction/ground clearance. And all that BS aside, they look really F'ing cool.

I'll 2nd that. I'm going from a 265 to a 285 to have better traction off road and in bad conditions.
