265/75 16 question

Sorry for asking this, I'm sure it has been asked before. Will I lose much low end power/torque by going to a 265/75 tire on my 01 4x2? It only has the 4.6 so I'm worried it won't pull and haul as well.

What size are you running currently? Wider size tires will grip better, and will only minorly slow the truck down.

You shouldn't notice any real loss of power. A 265/75 is 32" while the 255/70 is a 31" tire, the additional rotational mass is minor. After I got rid of the stock death trap Generals I put Bridgestone 265/75 on my '01 and never noticed. It wasn't until I put a 3.5" spindle lift and 285/75s did I notice a drop in power.

Thanks, I was thinking leveling the front end and the 265/75 for now. I guess that would look alright.

Going from 255/70-16 to 265/75-16 won't be a problem if you've got at least 3.55 gears...not sure how it'd work out if you've got 3.31 or taller gears but I'd suspect it still won't be a problem.

I just did the same size swap on my '97 4x4, 4.6L, 3.55 gears and am very happy with how it turned out. The 265s fill out the wheelwells pretty nicely and is the same diameter as the off-road package 265/70-17 tire package...they'll fit on a 2wd with no leveling kit needed unless you want to get rid of the factory rake.
No noticable loss of power and 6mph difference on the speedo @ 60mph if you don't get it recalibrated. (I recalibrated my 97 by dropping to a 19tooth VSS gear from the original 20tooth gear...it's spot on. On an '01 you will need to recalibrate with a tuner or a trip to the dealership).
The ride should be smoother with the slightly larger tire too. I didn't think it'd be enough to notice, but it definitely is on my truck.

BTW, P255/70-16 is a 30" to 30.25" tire so depending on the tire you choose you're actually going with almost 2" in diameter increase...the LT/265/75-16s A/Ts that I put on are 31.75".

Thanks for the help guys. I figured it wouldn't be a problem, but thought someone on here would know for sure.
