7 lug 16" rims to 7 lug 17"

Okay I have an 04 Heritage 7700, which came with 7 lug 16" rims. After looking everywhere I found some 16" 7 lug rims on eBay by Pacer. They are better, but now I've found some 7 lug 17" rims which were on an 06 F150, but they don't work on mine?? The caliper hits the rims as it seems the rotor thickness at the lugs is thinner than the 06!!! Sucks....

So, it seems that I can put the new body style 7 lug rotors and calipers (the caliper should bolt up as the bolt spacing is the same, I measured, I have to use the caliper as well because the newer rotor is 1/2" larger) on my heritage 7 lug setup and that should work to use any of these newer 7 lug rims.

Can anyone confirm that this would be possible??

Thanks!!

Good question. I would think the newer 17's will fit. However, another point to consider is the 04-08 F-150's use wheels with more backspacing than the 97-03 trucks and heritage 04's (5.5 inches vs. 4.5 inches).

I thought the newer ones would fit, but they don't, they hit the caliper, that's why I was thinking about this swap. Were does the backspacing come into play in all this? Maybe that's why the caliper hits? So the different spacing makes the newer models tires poke out further?

No, the 5.5 inch backspacing makes the new wheels tuck in farther. I bet that is why the caliper hits.

I guess I should have mentioned that the 17" rims are aftermarket rims, which usually will fit any 7 lug pattern, but these didn't, I just thought that was a bit weird (cause they were nice and I wanted them on my truck!)
