My trucks got a set of polished aluminum pro comp wheels on it. They used to look good, but after a few winters and a lack of attention, they look like hell. Brake dust, road salt, its taken a toll.

I was considering masking off the tires and painting them so they arent such an eyesore and then replacing them when the warmer weather comes back.

Does anyone have a paint recommendation to use?

I was going to go black, but saw some gun-metal grey stockers on a Ranger FX4, and thought that might look pretty good too. The trucks a 2-toned burgundy/tan, just help you get a picture in your head.

 

Duplicolor makes a spray paint intended for wheels.

 

a little more pricey, but you can always get them powder coated

 

X2. Went this route in the past on another car. I did a flat black and it looked amazing.

No doubt, powder coating will be much, much better.

 

Im up for the idea of powdercoating; I like the end effect, but Im not in love with these wheels Ive got, so Id rather save that for the next set that will go on.

I dont particularly care for the flashy stuff, and am most likely going to try and put together something along the lines of an American Racing Baja and find some H2/BFG AT take offs. If powdercoating can be done in clear, just to protect the polished aluminum from getting pitted again, Ill probably go that route.

 

If you have them cleaned up and re-polished, yes powder coat can be done in high gloss clear. Make sure you get a warranty against yellowing of the clear coat. Cheap clear is easy to find, non yellowing is more expensive.
