97 4WD 4.6 No brake pressure

I purchased this truck after it had set a couple of years. I replaced the front brake pads as needed, but got a lock up situation a couple of times. Did not want to mess around, so replaced the calipers and lines, bled all the lines to clear and have no brakes. Replaced the master cylinder. Still no brakes. No leaks. Still no brakes. What did I do wrong? It' ABS, could it be electrical?

i have the same problem

i also have a 1997 4X4 4.6 and i have replaced all the brake lines, calipers, pads, rotors, and i have brakes, but there is hardly any presure. i have flushed and bled the lines and i have no leaks and the peddle goes to the floor and it slowly comes to a stop. the only thing i have not changed was the master cylender and the booster. did you end up fixing the problem?
thanks

No I haven't, yet. Letting her sit awhile and still reading up and waiting for suggestions. If you hear some, I would appreciate. Thanks for the contact and nice to know I am not alone.

Its probably air trapped in the ABS module. Call local dealer and see best way to get that air out. I understand dealers have a device for cycling the modulator, for this reason. rossford

This is the trickiest thing I've ever ran accross. We're not getting much help here. I guess we are not supposed to know the "secret". Another great idea from Ford?

Warren,,,these master cylinders should be bench bleed., before installation. Have you made any adjustments to the push rod that goes to the vaccuum booster??? If you did, and went too far, the pistons in the master cyl. will not return enough to clear the little inlet holes, in order to let fluid in. Does the peddle go all the way to the floor easily? is the peddle spongy? are you checking it with engine running or not? Does it help if you pump the brakes? Just trying to think of anything I can to help...rossford

Thanks for responding rossford. I replaced the booster first and had brakes afterward, did not adjust the rod. When the engine is running the pedal is completely without pressure.

Smile ok i finally got it

here is how to bleed all the air out of the Brake and ABS system without going to ford and paying $400 for them to do it. you see ford has a scanner that will go in to the ABS and tell the vales inside the module to open and close theree for releasing all the air into the system so it can be bleed out at the wheels.
step 1. take your truck out to a dirt or gravel road and get up to aboput 30 to 35 MPH and slam on the brakes. the key is to get the brakes to lock up and skid so the ABS system will engage. this will make the valves open inside the ABS system and release the air. do this about 5 times and then go back and bleed the brakes.
step 2. go back and do step one again and it is that easy.

not to insult your bleeding skills but you should start at the right rear and crack the bleeder a 1/4 turn and then push the peddel to the floor. tighten up the bleeder and then release the peddel you should do this about 10 times then move to the left rear and do that one 8 times, then the right front 6 times and then the left front 4 times.
(do not pump the brakes like we use to on the older trucks, just crack the bleeder and then push peddel to the floor and hold it until the bleeder is tight.

anyway i got this info from a friend whos brother works for ford and guess what "IT WORKED"

Good Luck Fellas
