Goodyear Silent Armor
Goodyear Silent Armor
I tried doing a search but didn’t find what I was looking for
I have an 05 Screw that came with Goodyear Wrangler AT/S LT275/65R18 tires. These tires have been good but now have over 80,000 miles on them.
I want to get new tires before the snow starts. Since I do get a little over 20MPG highway I didn’t want to change too much.
I can replace them with the same tire but the Wrangler Silent Armor has much better ratings. However they don't come in this size in an LT version. They make a P275/65R18 with a load rating of 2601 lbs at 44. But on Goodyear’s site they have an LT275/70R18 3,640 lbs @ 80. That would fit my rims and is just about an inch taller. Since my speedometer is about two miles fast I thinking it would just even it out.
Any help in deciding what I should do would be a great help.
So do I stick with the same tires, switch to the passenger tires (I don’t do any towing and maybe load five or ten sheets of sheetrock every so often). Or do I go to the larger LT tires. (Would there be any issues?)

The SilentArmor tires are a great all around AT. Much better then the AT/S ever was. They handle great on any terrain and absolutely phenomenal in snow. The down side to the Larger LT tires are that they will ride a little rougher.
I went from P rated tires to the LT SAs and I barely noticed any difference. My mileage was affected enough for me to notice either.
IIRC my 285/70/17s were around 850 installed. I've got 30,000 miles on them now and they're just starting to show some wear. Over all a great tire in my opinion

I don't know why the difference in non LT etc, in any case, the S/A's will be more than enough for what you or I or pretty much 90% of the people on here realistically do. I've had mine for 2 years about and love them. I've liked the AT/S' as well. See gallery for pics.
If thats all you haul and wanna save your mpg's go with a P tire as long as you get a tire with some sidewall and not rubber bands. LT's are more expensive, weigh more and ride rough unless you run them low pressure which is not good for tire.
I think the F150 4X4 weighs just a little to much for P rated tires. I am going to get atleast 6 ply this time aroound. I am thinking about getting some Hankook RF10 in the LT275/70 R18. These are a heavy 10 ply tire and the additional 1inch dia. will impact my speedometer by about 2 miles per hour at 65.
I have P rated toyo's on my 2000, they wore quickly, I had several flats (Nail) and destroyed one tire, cut with a rock. I had Dunlop Rover 30 X 9.50 LT's on my 1991 F150, never a flat and they lasted a long time, over 40K miles.

I had GY fortera Silent Armors (P tire), rated 70k i got 28k i think out of them. Got discount tire to warranty them out, but still, you think they would last atleast 50k

Have a set of LT275/70R17 LR C. Like the dry and wet traction, and the tread wear. Have about 10k on them with minimal wear. I do not like the sidewalls with the very thin black rubber over the white for the lettering. Just brush a curb in parking and it will peel the black off. From what I have seen, it is only about 1/64" thick. Also it took 5 tires to get 4 that would balance. never had that in any other tire.
Can't say about snow tractyion as in the winter I use BFG ATs.
