33" or 35"

I have a 2007 FX4 S-CREW
-20" factory wheels
-LEVEL KIT UP FRONT W/ADD A LEAF OUT BACK
-VOLANT COLD AIR KIT
-SUPERCHIP PROGRAMMER

I am looking to put bigger tires and smalle rims...
I have no plans to do any major off roading
just want the on/off road performance of an all terrain t/a
espically during Chicago winters and the killer look of big truck tires...

I understand the truck will lack performance
and may loose mpg with bigger tires...
but is the loss in power and gas enough to
make me want to stop at 33"???
or should I just go as big as I can???

also doeas anyone know why 99% of the s-crews
I see have rectangle fog lights and chrome or gray bumpers
with chrome or flat black handles...
but my truck is all painted glosy black...bumpers and handles too
and has round fog lights like a Harley edition including the black headlights
and idea???

Thanks

I would keep your 20 inch rim and buy some toyo a/t, o and I would say bigger is better in this situation, with rubbing I have no idea I ahve a 3 inch body with pretty much no rubbing, but mine is an 02...

With those wheels you will have to stick with 33's. If you were to get a set of oem wheels you could fit 35x12.50's with just minor rubbing on the control arms at full steering lock.

I agree with the above.

The foglights went from rectangle to circle in 2006. Same for the paint you mentioned.

Hey Jordan...
any issues with rubbing or anyhting???
do you know what the offset & backspacing is on your rims???

anyony see a difference or pro/con between 305-65-17 & 285-70-17...
tires calculate almost the same height but of course one is a little wider...

I dropped down from 18 inch wheels to 17's close to 3 year's ago, running 315x70x17 BFG AT's and love them. I had to put them on 8 inch wide wheels with 5 1/2 inches of backspace for them not to rub in the front. I had them on 9 inch wheels with 5 inches of backspace and they rubbed slightly in the front so after 4k miles I put the tires on different wheels and no more problems.

Hey PawPaw

truck looks great...
but when I look up 315-70-17 they recomend
a minimum wheel width of 8 1/2"...
how did you get such a wide tire on an 8" rim???
plus how much room is there because the wheels
I want are only 4 1/2" backspacing on 17x8
and 4 3/4" bs on 17x9...

which is also the reson why I wasn't looking into an oem wheel
because I find most if not all of 17 & 18 are only 8 inches wide...

are there more people running a 315 wide tire on a factory
or aftermarket 8 inch wheel???...(17, 18 or 20)

Thanks

A lot of members are running 35x12.50's (315x70-17's, etc) on the oem 7.5 inch wide wheels with no problems.

33" Not worth gas for 35" if not doing 4" or larger, looks to tight in fender IMO.

The 315's work great on an 8" wheel, the trick to running a wide tire on a 4x4 leveled out is to use a wheel with close to stock specs. The further you come out with the wheel and tire assy in the front the more chances to rub. The same applies to 17 or 18 inch wheels. You can run 35x12.5 tires on these wheels if they have a 5 1/2" BS or some 18" wheels are 8 1/2 inches wide with a 5 1/2 or 6 inch BS. These may also work, good luck in your decision!

seems like every wheel I find I like wether it is 17" or 18"
only has between 4 1/2" - 5" of back spacing...
not to mention all the websites that sell wheels that fail to list the wheels backspacing...

I am pretty sure I only want to go with a 33" tire
because I don't want to kill my MPG considering I drive 34 miles a day for work
and work 6 days a week almost every week...
and after looking at a ton of pics I do agree with some of you as far as the wheel well is too full with a 35" tire...

so...now how do I determine how wide of a tire I can run
depending on the diameter of the wheel and/or the backspacing???

285/70/17...305/65/17...305/70/17(34")

and does the offset come into play too???

Thanks

You can fit 285's or 305's on an 8 or 9 inch wide wheel. I'd try to stick with a 8 or 9 inch wide wheel with at least 5 inches of bs.
