Finally got new tires

After researching numerous sites and reviews, I went with the Maxxis Bighorn 275/70R18. I've got about 2k miles on them thus far and I love them. I've got the 2 inch front leveling kit from Skyjacker installed as well. Just an fyi... but I've lost almost 3 miles per gallon....

They are a 33x10.5x18 M/T tire. They ride smooth and raised the truck about an inch. They were almost $200 cheaper than the same size Toyo Open Country M/T which were my first choice.

I think they are also a 10 ply so they'll be alot heavier than factory. They look good though.

They look good with aggressive tread--I personally prefer a wider tire.

i cant believe you lost 3 mpg off of those...my coopers didnt affect me nearly that much...maybe 1.5 at most...and they are either an 8 or 10 ply 33x12.50 mud terrain...

If your OEM tires were not as tall as the Maxis your speedometer and odometer are off. This means you are actually traveling farther than you odometer is showing, meaning you mpg calculations are off (meaning you are getting more mpg's).

Good point Wandell. I wonder if he corrected his speedo or not?

When I installed my BFG 285/70R17s, according to my trip odometer, I lost 2 mpg.

OEM tires 235/75R17 30.9 dia
Aftermarket 285/70R17 33" dia

Diameter difference 2.1"

At 50mph speedometer reading, I am actually travelling 53 miles.

To be honest, I had a friend with a KNOWN good, calibrated speedo follow me home and pace me, it is more like the speedo showing 50, and actually doing 55... I set the cruise control at 50 and his speedo read 55 pacing me side x side...

So let's go with that assumption.

I was averaging 17mpg, I went down to 15mpg, but I am travelling 10% futher than shown... So I am actually getting 16.5mpg, so I only lost .5 mpg with the upsize of the tires...

I figure a regear, and reprogramming of the trucks computer would have a LOT of influence on MPG as well.

I did gain the lost MPG back, and then some when I switched from dino oil, to Royal Purple...
