Tire / Wheel size question

I found a place local that is going to let me order wheels and tires and make payments on them. Once paid off they will put them on the truck. This is an ideal situation for me, since it will keep my wife from going ape**** on me for buying them, so I am going to go for it. Previously I had decided on getting bigger tires on my factory wheels because that was what I could afford. However, if I am going to do it, I might as well do it right and do it big. I have an 08 Reg Cab with 2.5" AS in front and 1" FX2 rear lift blocks in the back (The blocks actually go on this weekend). I do not want a bigger lift. I want a 20" rim but I have no clue what size tires I can run on these or what backspace I should look for. The tires I want are the Nitto TG's, I know that much. Lets say I find a 20x9 or 20x8.5 rim, what backspace should I look for and what is the biggest tire I can fit without rubbing. I don't want to do any trimming and I wouldn't mind them sticking out about an inch or so since I have been looking at a set of OEM flares. Any help is appreciated.

I'd suggest a 9 inch wide wheel with 5 to 6 inches of backspacing and a 305/55-20 (33x12.50) tire.

Cool, thanks again for you knowledge. Just one more question. Alot of the wheels I am finding don't list backspacing and I cannot measure them online. Is there a way to calculate the backspacing? I am looking at the MB motoring Predators and even their site doesn't list the BS.

A 9 inch wide wheel with 4.5 inches of bs will stick out 2.5 inches farther than the oem 17 and 18 inch wheels.

Hey guys.....

Blue150, those Moto 957's are some cool looking wheels ! I was considering those for quite a while....

BTW Wandell, Blue was asking about those wheels in a 20"..... would they stick out the same if they were in an 18" wheel, but with the same back spacing ? Just curious.

Wow! $2600.00 for tires and wheels! I'm gonna have to start doing something illegal if I want to get those! Whoa! Is this about normal?

I picked these and the 305/55/20TG's to go with them.

Ok, if I downsize to the 17" wheel and go with the 295/70/17 I can get them for $1665.00. That is much better.

I have the measurement of the wheel I want but even the manufacturer doesn't list the BS. Here is what I have, is there a way to figure the BS on these? Same wheel, different offsets.

17x8.5 6-135 +25 OS 87.1 Centerbore
17x8.5 6-135 0 OS 106.2 Centerbore

Be careful getting 17" wheels. I just had a huge ordeal with a customer about some ultra 17" wheels not clearing the calipers. I'd go with the 18's personally.

Please let me know when you are ready to get some wheels and I'll do my best to take care of you

That has been an issue on some 05 and newer trucks. Also, I think there is a better selection of 18 inch tires than 17's.

You know, I think I read the same thing here about them not clearing. Good point. I will start looking for 18's. Wandell, what size tires should I look for in 18? 33x12.50x18?

That or 305/5-18 (34x12.50), 325/60-18 (33x13.00) or 285/65-18 (33x11.50).

Wandell,
Will these fit my 08 Reg Cab 2WD? I know they will stick out a bit but that is okay as I have other plans. Tires will be 325/65/18.

Moto Metal 951's in black 18x9 6x135 -12 offset 4.53" BS
