02' Screw Tire Q

Just got a used 02 Screw, looking at putting some new meats on her.
Currently has 265/70/17's and wondering if i can go to the next size up, 285's i think it would be.
Would it effect my ride/mpg's much?
Recommended brand/type?

I am use to BFG AT KO's and always liked those, want to stick to an all season or AT tire, open to both.

Yes, you can easily fit a 285/70-17 (33x11.50), a 295/70-17 (34x12.00), a 305/65-17 (33x12.50) or a 305/70-17 (34x12.50). The BFG AT KO, Nitto Terra Grappler, Toyo AT, Pro COmp Xtreme AT, **** Cepek FC II and Mickey THompson ATZ's would also be great choices.

Mine is a 4.6L and i don't want to feel a lot more burden on the get up n go end. So should i assume the 265/70/17 I currently have are more than likely 11.50 widths or am i off there?
I'm leaning towards the 33x11.50's if so, gain a little height without extra width drag. Then again, the 33 in a 12.50 if they make em, might not be too bad either.
Now I'm off to search all those others you mentioned to find pics of them.

I have 285-70-17 BFG AT tires on mine with a 6" lift. With this much lift it looks a little small, but stock it would look good.

I put 285/70-17 on my 03 SCREW. I lost a few MPGs but made up for it (and then some) with an XCal2. I love the look and get a lot of compliments on my truck. I agree with Wandell on the tire brands...my top three in no order would be BFG AT, ProComp XAT, and Nitto TG. I decided to get the BFG MTs and I absolutely love them. I really need to get some pictures up.

Your OEM 265/70-17's are essentially a 32x10.50 tire. So a 33 inch tire is not gonna affect your performance a lot.

Well I went with the BFG AT KO's "again". Went with the 285/70/17's...about and inch higher and wider....I love them in the Michigan winters up here and can't seem to pull myself away to another tire. I did look those Terras over real hard, nice lookin meat, but the busy side wall pattern is what sent me back to the BFG's.
Get this, as i mentioned, i just bought this 02' used. They had 1 anti-theft lug nut on each tire and 2 lug nuts were of the cone shaped seating type. According to discount tire, my lugnuts are a self clinching "flat" seating type, not coned. So since they didn't have a key for the antitheft nuts, nor did i, they had to work them to get them off. They put the rims back on with the new BFG's and informed me i needed to get a total of 6 correct nuts from Ford. Of course none of the stealerships stock them around here so had them ordered. Then i asked '"Ok, so what are they going to cost?" reply: "$12+ a piece" What!? reply: Well they are chrome beauty enhanced nuts" ....What!?!? I am shocked I'm paying $70+ for 6 friggin chrome lug nuts!

Discount Tire didn't have any in stock? I'd have them or a parts store order a set of aftermarket lugnuts for your wheels.

Discount didn't have them nor did an Autozone.

Now for another issue i discovered today:
First time on highway, first time doing 70 with the new 285's.

At about 60-65 the front ends is starting to wobble, 70 or so I began getting random front end jerking. Almost feels like a vertical jerk more than the side to side.

Never had this before with the BFG's and thinking er....hoping it is just a miss-ballance on the tires.
Granted, all four rims are missing 1 lugnut, but didn't think that would cause the jerking I'm getting
