Should I go to 20 inch??

Ready to pull the trigger on new rims. I have an 06 FX4 with 2 1/2 inch AS level. Was going to get the XD Monster 18 inch with Nitto Terras (295 or 305) and hopefully no rubbing. Just wondering, If I go to 20 inch as opposed to 18 inch will this change the maximum size tire? I'd like to fill up the wheel well as much as possible. Can I fit a 295 or 305 with high aspect ratio say 65 or 70? i do not like thin sidewalls. Any suggestions as far as max size without having to trim are appreciated. i suppose I should stick with the 5.5 backspaceing (18 offset) or does this change if I go to the larger rim.

Your rim size is not going to affect your overall tire size. It will only change your sidewall height. Personally, I believe a 35" tire belongs on an 18" rim. There are many members who have 35's on 20's, and they look great. I just think 35's are proportionately better on 18's. When it comes down to it, you will have to choose what looks best to you.

I have an '06 FX4 with a AS 2.5" kit. I will soon be going with 20" Monsters on 305/55/20 Nitto TG's. I am going for this look:

Just MPO.....

And don't get me wrong, I think 20"s look sweet..... But I think 17"s or 18"s with a more rubber (especially if its agressive looking rubber), look just a little bit sweeter (cost completely aside) but then throw in the fact that 17" and 18" wheels + tires cost WAY less, and for me its a no brainer.

I think if I had an F450, with a 10" lift, and 45" tires, 20"s might look great ;-)

"OR" if I were going for a street look with low profile tires, then at least 20"s..... but more likely 22"s.....

Either way, it's hard to make an F150 look bad :-)

Peace,
Fish

just my opinion. On a street truck, I like the larger rim with the lower profile tire. Looks like they were built to handle some hard curves.
For the off road, 4x4 look, I like the smaller rim with the taller tire with a lot of rubber. To me it looks more off road ready. You certainly wouldnt want to ding up a wheel that has low profile tires on a rock while off roading.
That said, I have to contradict myself a bit because there are a ton of great looking trucks here that are lifted and have larger rim, lower profile tire set ups. :o

20" is a must if going aftermarket. You can still get a nice size tire w/ a 20 incher

A 35" tire is a 35 on a 16 or 20" wheel, whatever you like more rubber or more wheel. A 20" tire usually cost's a good bit more than say a 17". I'll stick with the 17's or 18's, and yes some 295's or 305x70's would fill up the wheelwells great on a leveled 4x4, also a 305x65x18 is a nice size also. Just be sure to try to keep the tires inside the wheelwells and not stick out too far to avoid rubbing in the front.
