Backspacing?I hate to beat a dead horse, but.....

On an 06 4x2 SCrew what is the minimum amount of backspacing needed, on 18x9's, to keep the tire from sticking out of the wheel well. I want to run 285/65/18 or possibly 305's. I plan on installing a 2" leveling kit.I really like the Moto Metal 957 and the Pro Comp 7089(which has 4.75") Also considering the Magnus Matte Ultra which has 6" backspacing. My fave is the 957 but i don't know the BS for those; although I have read some posts that lead me to believe it isn't much. I really appreciate any help on this issue. Thnx much gentlemen btw the offsets are: Procomp -6, Magnus 25, MM 957 -12. Thanks again. All these numbers give me a headache!

Well ive been busy and havent showed my new pics yet but ill show you what 18x9 with 5 inch bs 0 offset with a 305/65/18 looks like sticking out and itll help give you an idea.I was in the same spot you were for weeks and finally pulled the trigger and did it.Im glad i went with 5 inch bs and not the 6.And the front tire does stick out a hair more thenthe picture,i was parked weird and it looks like its in more. Also the matte black magnus was one of my choices but only in 6 inch bs,and alon at modbargains tried to help me get a ultra wheel but i couldnt find what i wanted in the bs. or offsets.

Yeah, a 9 inch wide wheel with 5 inches of bs will stick out 2 inches farther than stock. I wouldn't want any less than 5 inches of bs personally.

Thanks a lot for your help. So If I went with the Magnus Matte with the 6" of BS my tires would stick out less? This wheel has an offset of 25. What does that do to the equation?? Also if I went with 285 instead of 305 it wouldn't be that big of an issue anyway, right? Do 285's work ok on a 9" wide wheel?? Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it. I have the look I want visualized in my mind, but it seems a little tricky to get it just right!

That looks pretty damn cool.I can't see the wheels. Did you find some matte black ones with 5" BS?

Nick yeah i went with american racing teflon coated thugs with 5 inch bs 18x9 the 285 should be fine and yes the 6inch bs will bring it in 1 inch more then mine.probably even with fender.

Right, the more backspacing, the more the tire will tuck in. And yes, a 285mm wide tire will work fine on a 9 inch wide wheel.

Those look really cool. I really like the ARW teflon Chambers, but they only have 4.5" BS. Would 285's stick out with those?? Thanks alot.-----Also, why do so many custom wheels have such minimal BS?

4.5 will stick out 1/2 inch more but the tire might not stick out off the rim as much so it might look the same as mine.

yes unfortunately too many rims come with 4.5 inch backspacing. I too liked those 957's and also the american racing chambers. but the 4.5 inch backspacing turned me away. so last week I ordered me a set of KMC monsters in black. can't wait till they get here. I think with those rims with 6 inchs of backspacing you could run the 305's just fine without sticking out. I ordered me some 305/65/18's to go on my monsters.
