More on Tire ?'s

I may be sounding stupid here, but I have been told many different things with regards to tires. I have an '06 Screw Lariat, 17 x 8.5 after market wheels with 25 mm offset. Anyone know the biggest size tire I can fit with a 2.5 leveling kit in the front....i was told 33's.....35's.....305's....285's...and 295's.....every tire location i call and ask, give me a different size...also, what is the diff between 305 and 33 or 35....i know it is mm to inches, but what is the comparision...is a 305 a 33 or 35? also, how wide???? sorry for being an idiot with this, but i have the wheels sitting in my garage and I want to get the tires.

It could be any and all depending upon wheel size, aspect ratio etc.

Start here. http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoSidewall.dos

This site also has a tire size calculator that will give you final dimensions.

I'm running 315x70x17 tires on 17x8 wheels with a leveling kit with no rubbing. To be safe I would go with a 305x70x17 max.

pawpaw..

i have a 4x2 lariat screw...do you know what the difference in height is after the leveling kit from the 4x4 like yours? makes sense that the 305 would be close and that 315 would be too big

I've asked the same question and I was told the 4x4 sits an inch higher, suspension wise, than the 4x2. So I would say you would be safer with the 305.

thats what i was kinda thinking, but then some tell me to go with 33's, which is a 305 about (i think) and others a 35...which I feel is way too big and won't fit.

Chris, I didn't realize you had a 4x2. I think leveled a 4x4 will be 1 to 2 inches taller in front than your 4x2. A 305x65 will be about the max as will a 295x70 on your aftermarket wheels. These tires ought to look good on your truck.

I agree. The 4x2's sit about 2 inches lower than the 4x4's. I'd go with a 285/70-17 (33x11.50), 305/65-17 (33x12.50) or a 295/70-17 (34x12.00) tire.

thanks guys....using your input, i actually measured my wheel wells and current OEM 265/60/18 wheels to try and mathematically figure out the biggest i could fit....I calculated the the 305/70/17 will just barely fit...less thean .5mm of free space when cranking, so I will probably go with the 305/65....the 33 x 12.50 actually would have more space available than the 305/70.....thanks for helping me out with this.

i know...thats why the 33 has more space available...do you know if they round the mm off..like a 305 is a 33.81 or do they actually make it an exact 33, 34, 35??? the .81 actually makes a difference in what would fit on my truck

A 305 with that final dimension would be considered a 34". But it would still be 33.81" in diameter.

Always use the actual, and it is better if you get the final diameter from the tire manufacturers website, as even though the tire calculators are close. Each tire may be slightly different, even on the same size.
