The factors that contribute to how far tires stick out

Just wondering, what factors contribute to how far a tire sticks out from the wheel base on an 2007 F-150. Say for a 35" tire and 20" wheels.

your rim WIDTH and OFFSET are the only measurement that will determine how far they will stick out. for example the factory rims on an 04-current F150 are +44 offset and 7.5 inches wide. if you get a rim with +30 offset it will stick out 14mm further. if you get a rim 2 inches wider it will stick out 1 inch further. so lets say you want to buy a wheel 10 inches wide with a +25 offset. thats 2.5 inches wider so divide that in half and you get 1.25 inches more it will stick out. and 19mm more on top of that for the offset difference. kinda hard to explain but i hope this helps. dont forget to account for the difference between your rim and tire width also. a 13.5 wide tire on a 10 inch rim will stick out from the rim a little also. good luck

lets say you have a 7.5'' wide rim with 5.5'' backspacing and 11'' wide tires.

And you put on a 9'' wide rim with 6'' backspacing and 12.5'' wide tires.

it would stick out 1.75'' further.

1.5'' for the rim width
-.5'' for more backspacing
1.5/2=.75'' for the tires

Hope that helps a little too......

Backspacing is so much easier to understand.

Something doesnt seem right here. I dont know a whole lot about this but when i bought my rim and tire set up i was told by les schwab to get your tires to stick out more you needed a - offset wheel. Saying the negative sets the mount of the rim back further pushing the lip of the rim out more. So i went with a -25mm offset wheel which was the deepest they had for the wheels i wanted, 17x10 with 37x13.5's and my tires stick out about 3 inches which is exactly what i was looking for.. Negative sets the mount in more giving you more lip to stick out.. Like this..

You gotta love my architectural abilities, I was offered a job at NASA once but turned them down cause i love construction so much

I may be wrong though. i dunno. I know my wheels are -25mm and they stick out atleast 3 inches
