New tires on '98

My cousin just bought a '98 4x4, with 16" stock wheels. The tires are bald - what size could he go to without having to worry about any modifications (other than maybe a little trimming)? Thanks...

If he is gonna keep the oem wheels, I'd go with a 285/75-16 (33x11.50).
