E brake cable removal?

Can someone explain to me how to remove the short e brake cable that goes to the tire on the drivers side. This cable keeps seizing up from salt, rust and dirt. I either need to replace it or clean it up and oil it but I can't figure out how it comes off. Thanks.

A 2004 with disc brakes is what you have I presume? If so, basically pry it off while maybe someone drives the attaching arm forward. It really has no real way to come off short of brute force and pulling. I can't remember exactly how they come off, I think I actually pull the spring with a finger or 2 and wiggle it off with the other hand.

Hey Blue, thanks for your help. I removed the short cable and I'm not sure if I should buy another one or try and free up the one I have. Is there any way to get the cable out of the plastic sheath? I can pull the cable back and forth on both ends but the spring has a hard time pulling it through. I don't know if soaking it in some oil overnight will do anything or not.

buy a new one. for what it is going to take you to loosen that one up you can have a new one.

Once a week make sure you give the cable a couple of applications. This keeps them from seizing

Should I use wd-40 or something like it on a regular basis? I use the e brake everyday and it still seized up.

I'd get a new one, for what it's worth why not. Are you also going to be servicing the e-brake assembly? That piece the cable hooks to is nutorious for seizing and on top of that the linings of the shoes always seperate and crack.

I've taken both e brake drums apart and separated the hook part from the swivel part. I wire brushed the hell out of them, lubed them, and put new shoes on. After I fixed the 2 pieces that were rusted together (with your help a couple months ago) I noticed the drivers side spring wasn't pulling the cable through the sleeve when the brake was released. It didn't pull it through even when it wasn't hooked to the hook behind the tire. I had to grab the spring end and pull it through, so I took it off yesterday. I'll order another one today, its about $27.00. Thanks for your help.
