The Hated Backspacing Thread...

Sorry guys, but I need some help. I am looking at the new XD Series Hoss in Bronze. 4wheelparts.com has them in the following for my 05 Screw FX4:

18X9
Offset: 30mm
Backspacing: 6.18

That backspacing seems like a lot to me. Will I be good with a Nitto Terra Grappler LT325/60R18 which is essentially a 32.99" tire combo? I know the diameter will be fine, but I am worried about the 325 tire with the 6.18" backspacing rubbing to much...

Thoughts?

You will stick out about 1" more than the stock wheels and you ought to be OK, wait and see what Wandell think's. If any rubbing it will be on the control arms when making a hard turn.

Just to give you the heads up I have Boss 304 rims with a BS of 6 and I run 325/65-18 Scorpions. I had to add a wheel spacer due to the width of the tire being almost 13" wide and the 6 offset. The tire would hit the UCA while it was still on jacks, so I had 2 options new wheels or spacers.

I have a set of Cattivo 18" rims with 5.5" of backspacing and the 325-60-18 Pro Comp Xtreme A/T's. I have a 2.5" AS on the front end and would like to add 3" blocks in the rear but haven't yet. Anywho, I had to do some very minor trimming on the plastic so it wouldn't rub when turning sharp over rough terrian. There is about 5/8's of an inch between the inner edge of the tire and the upper control arm when the tires are facing straight and it gets less as you turn them. It darn near touches at full lock. I don't know how the sides walls of the Nitto compair to the Xtremes though. In my case with my tires and truck, If I had the 6.18" of backspacing, the tires would rub the UCA for sure. My rims are 9 inches wide by the way, if it matters to ya.

JDB,

That is the exact same set-up I have...so your clarification with measurements make me think the Hoss Bronze with the 6.15 of backspacing is not possible with the 325 tire.

Thanks for the input, guess I will have to find a different rim. That sucks , I really thought those rims would look great on my truck. Not to mention they were only $191 per wheel.

Thanks for all the inputs guys.

I will add, I think the pro comp's are closser to 33.5 inches and just over 13.5 inches wide. I Think slightly larger and more agressive than the nitto's.
