Will they clear?

Hey guys,

Been doing alot of searching and have been coming up with mixed responses.

I currently have a stock 05 4x4 FX4. I'll be ordering a 2.5" AS leveling kit, but I also want to toss on some bigger tires. I'm still using the stock 17" rims, but later would like to run 17" MT Classic Locks.

Ideally, I would like to use either the ProComp Xtreme Mud Terrains or the Xterrain. Sizes I'm looking at are 35x12.5 (315x70), 33x12.5 (305x65), and 285x70 (+/- 33x11). I'm really unsure on what tire to go with and want to get a set ordered here soon.

The truck is primarily street driven, but I like to take it offroad. Nothing hardcore, but enough to have some fun so some clearance would be necessary.

Let me know what you guys think/recommend. It would be appreciated.

Since you want aftermarket wheels later, I'd go with the 305/65-17's.

you recommending that one because its a bit wider and would fit better on the aftermarket wheels?

i'm assuming the 35"er wasnt recommended due to it simply being to big to clear, especially if offroading?

thanks for chiming in. from the posts i've seen, you've given alot of good avice to other members, especially in this forum.

Generally you can run 35's on a leveled 4x4 wth stock rims with just a little bit of rubbing at full lock, pawpaw has figured out that you can run 35's on 8'' wide rims with i think it is 6'' bs. But the best thing for you to do would be to run the 305's for now and then get the aftermarket rims and they will fit fine.....

just out of curiosity, what if I was to just bite the bullet and order up the wheels at the same time?

Wheel size is 17x9 w/ 5.5" BS. MT Classic Lock.

Would those allow me to clear 35's enough to offroad w/o having any issues? If not, then it's looking like i'll be going with 33's.

I would really like to try and run 35's, but I would like to avoid any rubbing issues. I dont mind doing some MINOR trimming, but I'd prefer to not hack up the truck.

I think you will have some serious rubbing with that combo. I'd suggest sticking with the 33's, or adding a body lift and going with 35's.

If you stayed with the stock rims, you would not have hardly any issues, with the 35's but you would have to get the right set of after market rims that have a close enough to your stokers to keep from rubing bad, I have the 35's on my stock rims check out my camera icon, older pictures are of my 305/65/18 BFG AT 34x11 and the newest ones are the 35x12.5 BFG Muds, with no rubbing. If you stick wiht stokers get 35's if you go aftermarket get the 33's

Sinner 88, if you want 35's on aftermarket wheels you need a 17x8 wheel with 5 1/2 inches of backspace. These will have the wheels only 1/2" out more than stock and give you extra clearance in the front wheelwells. I'm still able to do some easy offroading and not rub on the front.

Thanks Pawpaw.. wandell actually just mentioned in my other thread that if I used stock BS that I could probably squeeze that size... good to hear it confirmed.

What would you consider easy offroading? Any sort of flexing?

Any trimming required? And NO rub at all correct?

*edit* crap.. just realized the couple of wheels I was looking at are 4.5"BS

Wheels I had the 315's on when they rubbed were 17x9 with a 5" backspace, I did a little trimming on the lower wheelwells to stop most of the rubbing except for hard turns. The setup on my truck now has no rubbing even with going offroad and doing some minor flexing. I wouldn't get too crazy offroading anyway with stock suspension and only a leveling kit!! Click on the little camera icon to see some pics.

Thanks. I really like the way it looks. I just need to find some wheels now I guess, or just go with 33's. I just want to make sure I get no rubbing.
