Can I get away with putting a 305/70/16 on a 7" wide wheel?

I roughly measured the wheel width and it looked like 8" wide, but the door sticker is saying 7. I currently have 285/75/16 on there now without any problems. They say no more then 4" over rim width, which puts me over already.

You can, but this may cause the center portion of the tread to wear slightly faster.

how much more would you say they would wear in miles? the M/T's are oversized and they lasted way longer then expected. these would be 2 cm wider.

who's "they"......

The rim is measured by the distance between the two beads, not the width of the entire rim. So it probably is a 7" wide wheel. A 305/70 16 has a rim range of 8-9.5" Squeezing that tire onto it will definitely crown the tire and cause it prematurely wear it in the middle. More importantly, it will stress the tire construction at the shoulder, which could overheat it and possibly cause de-lamination or failure.

Can you get it on, probably. Should you? No way.

you can put 305's on a 7" wheel, but I highly DO NOT recomend it. they will wear and handle funny, and look terrible.

If you are doing it while saving money for aftermarket wheels in the near future, I'd do it. If you are gonna keep the OEM wheels, I'd go with a 285/75-16. It's basically the same height, just and inch narrower.
