Losing 1" width

I have a 2000 ford lightning 18" rims which are apparently 9.5" wide.

I have been playing with the idea of getting new rims, and pretty much all of the ones i like are 20" rims but they are all 8.5" wide

Does this mean i have to use different rubber? And will i lose 1" of traction. As some of you know you need all you can get with the L!

Or do standard hankook and F1 lightning tires fit on 8.5" rims as well?

Thanks.

they will fit, but yea, they want be as wide....plus it will make it a slighty taller tire...because instead of the tire spreadig out, it will bubble up hence the smaller rim causing the tire to squeeze close....but id do it...not that big of a notice
but yea, u will need new tires because a 18" tire want fit on a 20" rim
