I hear it grinding and thought well it has 37k mile so i looked and saw all looks ok then looked at the insides and the right rear inside is shot?

any help!! weird usually they are all bad?

 

That wear is usually associated with power braking the truck. Don't ask me how I know that!

 

do you mean the parking brake? (i.e. the part that looks like a small drum brake)

If that is the case, you may have had and issue with the parking brake that caused it to drag during normal driving. But I would think you would feel that... it should have pulled to the right. And you probably would have smelled the very hot brake when you stop and got out (maybe not as it is passenger side?)

or... this just hit me... by "inside pad" do you mean that you have more wear on the interior side brake pad than the outside brake pad??? (on your calipers that is). If that is the case, it could be an issue with the pins having seized and all the braking being performed by the piston side of the caliper?

Yup, sounds like a caliper hung up...

 

so i replace all the rears pads all seems to be ok i hope? the inside of the rotor is a little worn but all the others were fine and had more than a 1/4 inch left? must have been the caliper hung up-at least the pads r easy to change

 

when you changed them - did the pins slide easily??? You may need to pull it back apart to clean/grease the pins. Otherwise you'll have the same issue again.

Sounds like you need to lubricate all external parts,slide pin ect...I think the caliper is putting pressure on the side with the piston and not on the other side,which tells me it needs some lube.Unless you have a piston on the inboard and outboard side of caliper,if that is the case,get another caliper.

 

Yup nailed the issue on this one. I usually use marine grease and have never had the problem again. Usually water/mud is the cause of these pins hanging up
