recalibrate speedo confusing...
I've been reading posts here for the past few hours and I'm even more confused. I currently have 275's on my 2000 f150 4x4. I just put a 3" body lift on it and am about to go with 35's. I'd like to have the speedometer, odometer and shifting to be correct and at their optimum for my new tire size but I'm not interested in programming any other settings (rev limiter, etc.) I'd like to get this done as inexpensively as possible. If I locate a dealer (or performance shop) who is willing to do it, does he need to enter separate programming codes for the speedometer, odometer and shifting? Or will he simply input the tire size/gear ratio and everything automatically gets adjusted? Any info on this is much appreciated...
If you live in the US and I assume you do, I'm pretty sure you can take it to Autozone or Pepboys or someplace similar and they may do it for free. I think all they do is put in the tire size and the programmer does the rest but don't quote me on that cuz for mine I can't do it that way. I had to actually go the the Ford dealer and buy an $8 gear to replace the one in the speed sensor under the truck next to the tranny.
THe 99's and up have computer controlled speedometers. I'd suggest having the dealer do it. Most charge about $80. I'm not sure how they input the information at the dealerships. On my Superchips tuner you have to select a tire height. It's not as simple as putting in 35" either. FOr my 35's I wound up inputting something like 34.75" to get the speed right.
Called local dealers...
I'm having a heck of a time getting a dealer to help me out. I called 3 local dealers around here and this is what I got:
Covert Ford - not sure how, call another dealer
Maxwell Ford - can't make the change for that tire size (315)
Leif Johnson Ford - not sure but bring it in and we'll take a look
Every private shop I called can't do it either and recommends a hypertech or superchip tuner. I really hate to fork over $400 for this but I'm running out of options...
