Hey the Midas guy may be on to something yet. you say it was shut down(KC assembly). Well the tag on my truck lists KC as the final assemble maybe they just throwing parts from who knows where if they knew they were shutting down.

 

The brake dust on my 06 was horrible especially with black wheels. After reading numerous treads on here about brakes, I went with the majority, Car Quest blue semi metalic. I have had them on for about 3 weeks and Im amazed. There will allways be a tiny bit of dust but a fraction of what I had before.

 

Wish I would have slapped on a set of Blues when I first purchased my 03! Just do it now!!!!

 

I have about 800miles on my 07 and I have noticed significant Brake Dust on my front wheels. I'm a clean freak so cleaning the wheels and tires a couple times a weeks is not problem for me. I know the company Ford gets their pads from uses a soft compound. All the expeditions I see around all have their front wheels black full of dust. I also have a Ford focus ZX3 and an SVT Focus and the brake dust on them were just about the same. All that matters is that the vehicle stops well, the brake dust can be cleaned.

 

FWIW - my '05 SCREW Lariat 4x4 has had dust issues at all 4 wheels (but especially the fronts) since day one....they also screech like metal on metal terribly....even had them checked and the dealer said nothing was wrong.

 

jes - how is the braking efficency as compared to the stock pads....still stop just as well or do you need to "heat up the pads" for full effectiveness?

I dont do alot of hard braking but they seem to stop just as well if not better than the stock ones. The reduced brake dust is awesome and makes them well worth it.

 

The main mystery is why one side has way more dust than the other.

 

I to have an 07 with only 300 dust miles on it and I just ordered a set of Akebono ceramic pads for it. I spkoe with a rep for the company and he said the new pads are very low dust and very rotor friendly. On my 05 I used Hawk HPS pads and they to worked very well, I just wanted to try the Akebono because I heard a lot about them. When I spoke with the rep he said 05, 06, and 07 all take the same front pads.

 

I really do not have a lot of brake dust on my 07's wheels either. I get what I woudl consider a normal amount of brake dust, not an excessive amount turning my wheels black.

Ran the same type on my 01 Ranger and never had dust issue. Stopping power was improved as well.

 

Look around every new body style f150 has brake dust every where on the wheels. I'm a weirdo with my brakes because I had 24" wheels.... I hate dust and noise... I tried everything from baer pads to ceramic pads from kragen auto parts. The best I've found are raybestos semi-metallic's, I have no noise and a lot less dust.

 

06 has same problem with excessive dust...

after you wash the wheels give them a waxing and the dust will hose off next time

I wash my truck every weekend when I can or during the week if I dont do it 3 times a week it isnt enough lol, anywho I drive 30 miles a day sometimes 40 and my wheels only stay clean for about 3 to 4 days.

 

I can't believe no one else said this, but the reason why the Midas guy is completely RETARDED is that the front brakes do the VAST majority of the braking, something around 90%. That said, you're going to have more dust up front.
