Angry Rear brake clicking noise

I am going crazy trying to find out what the cause of the clicking noise in the rear-end of my 2WD Extended Cab 2000 F-150. The noise only make itself heard when I am slowing down, like when turning into a spot and it even started doing it when backing up. When I step on the brakes there is no change and it does sound cyclic...tick, tick, tick...and it slows down with the truck. I am thinking it is the brakes, but can not prove it or figure out how to make it stop.

I have removed the hub caps - no go (I have heard of that)

Removed the wheels and retightened the calipers (no-go)

Hope somebody has heard of this?

mine did it as well....2000 f150...rear disc, with inner parking brake....it is the parking brake self adjuster and spring that are the culprits....prolly time to do the rear brakes...inner and outer, and lube all those parts...that should solve the problem..

Just did brakes all around in Nov 2005. But, I will check the emergency cable...I just determined it was the brakes by blocking and tying back the calipers. No more ticking, it made feel better knowing it was not the rear end. I'll post what I find. Thanks for the pointer.

Have you checked u-joints? They are notorious for making a clicking noise when bad.

No play in those. Once I made sure my disk's were not warped, I replaced them with the grease fitted versions awhile back. I replaced the hardware kit (included the clips, the pistons that the calipers ride on and their the boots, and the mounting bolts. I also took the wire wheel to outer edge of the disk itself to clean off the build up of rust and brake dust. The clicking is gone. Just wanted to share the info.
*** Thanks for all the help***

I had the same noise on my 2000. When I did my brakes, I only replaced the rear disc pads and not the Emergency brake shoes. The emergency shoes had unbonded from the metal backers and were loose inside the drum portion of the disc. They were rattling around freely behind the discs. I chased the noise for a month! Feel like an idiot, but finally fixed it with new e-brake shoes.

My 200 F150 4X4 is doing the same exact thing. Especially when I back up I get a loud thump, and then when I drive and turn at slow speeds I get the click, click, click. It is drivign me nuts. I have isolated it to the rear drivers side wheel area but nothing more. If anyone has anymore info on this please post it before I drive my truck off of a cliff!

Thanks
