Mud Tire Help!!!!
Mud Tire Help!!!!
so, i found a really nice Bronco im prorably gonna pick up this week. but its gonna need new tires in about 1,000 miles.... ive narrowed it down to
BFG M/T
Interco Trxus M/T
Interco Trxus STS
Maxxis Bighorn
or maybe another type of Interco. they need to be at or below $150 also.... what would you guys suggest? i will be making a round-trip to Chicago in August and January, maybe to live in January. so i was hoping for somethi9ng that will last awhile....
BTW, size is 33x12.50/15
if anybody sees a deal on something like this, lemme know! i need 5(matching spare). and seeing as im getting new Wheels also, if theyre 16's, and at or below $150, thats works too!

you can eliminate the Trxus STS from your options if your wanting a mud tire because it is not going to fit the bill at all...its a great sand tire and loose dirt tire, and a fairly good street tire, but clogs quickly in mud...
You may want to look into Mastercraft tires.I think it is Courser but i have heard good things about them and they are cheap. They are made by Cooper tires from what i have heard and they are an nice lookin mud tire IMO
You want to consider looking in a used parts trader if you have one in your area because you can usually find great deals there cheap

I'd agree with Wandell. Out of those you mentioned, the BFGs would be hard to beat.
With that said, I've run the BFGs and Maxxis Buckshots and the Buckshots, on average, lasted about 10K miles longer than the BFGs. They are excellent in mud. Wear and handle well on pavement. They were 31X10.50/15s but I'd imagine similar results with the size you want.

My vote would be for the Maxxis, either the Bighorn or Buckshot. A set of 4 33" Buckshots for 16" wheels goes for about $500 out the door around here. The Bucks are a great tire. They last. My buddy got 40-45k out of his set. He just put on another set. They are not noisy at all. Handle great in the rain.
Banshee, expect an increase in road noise with any mud tire. Just the nature of the beast. The Buckshots aren't any louder than the BFGs, in my experience. The BFGs are good tires, in fact, I don't think there is any better all terrain tires than the TA KOs. But, IMO, the Buckshots are the better mud tire if that is what you really want. For off road and tread longevity on pavement.
I was getting upwards to 45K+ miles with the Buckshots. Closer to 35 with the BFGs. I really can't explain why and your milage may vary. I know with the BFG AT KOs I can easily expect 50K+ before I need to replace. And they serve me very well on and off road.
Of course keeping them rotated, balanced, and properly inflated will play a major role in the longevity of any tire. That responibilty is placed soley on the driver.
Best of luck,
Joey
