wheels and tires

Does anybody have a suggestion for me? I have a 2003 F150 supercab with 16x10 wheels and lt265/75r16 tires. I just bought this truck a week ago and I'm dying to put bfg at ko's on. I have a spindle lift but don't know how high - probably 2-4". Will the 285/75's be a good choice or should I step up to the 305/75's. Thanks for any help.

I'd go with 305/70-16's (33x12.50).

I have the exact wheels you do - series 102's. Will the 305's fit with no rub? That's what i'm more worried about than anything. I looked at the 285 and the 305 yesterday and the 285's are cool but the 305s are even better, but obviously cost even more. What price range were you in for your 315's you've got on your '01 f150? If I get the 285's, I will pay $800 even after balance and mount. the 305's are almost $1,000.

Because of the 10 inch wide wheels, you will have to trim a little plastic off the corner of your front bumper's lower valance whether you go with 285's or 305's. I bought my 315's from my brother in law in a trade. They were almost knew and were on a F250 he purchased.

Thanks for your responses. I was just thinking about my wheels - I don't even know if they're 16x10. I know they're 16, but how do I know my width size? If they're less than 10, do you think I should stay with the 305's, or go back down to the 285's? Thanks again.

If they are not 10 inches wide, they are probably 8 inches wide. Either width will work with 305's.

Thanks again. You have a lot of good to say all over this forum. I also was curious about my wheels - the way they set out. Looking at the truck from the front, the wheels and tires stick out past the fender about 2 inches. Is there any way to make them go back to stock settings? My truck is lifted a couple of inches, and I was told it was a spindle lift. Obviously I don't know much about lifts, but I want to keep the truck lifted. So can I bring the wheels back in? Or would you have to see it? It looks good to me either way, I just wanted to know if I could change it if I wanted to. Do you know where to get the center caps for the wheels? Thanks again. Oh and one more thing, I don't have any kind of spacers on my wheels. What makes them sit out so far?

On a 2wd truck, the spindle lift makes the front wheels stick out more than the rear. This is likely what you are seeing. Only way to fix this is to put the stock spindles back on, which will lower the front of the truck, or get some wheels with a different offset. It sounds like you have 10 inch wide wheels, the 8 inchers do not stick out past the fenders. A narrower set of wheels with more offset (and more backspacing) will tuck the wheels in towards the fender while less offset (and less backspacing) sticks the wheels farther out.

thanks for that. If I were to get more narrow front wheels and keep the rears would I be able to put the same size tire on both?

I wouldn't do that. You couldn't rotate your tires easily.

Hey Wandell, I'm pretty sure we've got the same wheels and center caps. One of my center caps went spinning off, which I know happens to snap on wheel caps. Do you know any online site or distributor who sells the center caps? I went to Eagle Alloys web site, and I can't seem to find where to order anything. Since I lost one, I took the other 3 off because it was bothering me. I went to a local wheel shop and they have ordered the center cap for me 3 times, and every time I go down there to pick it up, it's the wrong one. Thanks.

Any shop should be able to order it directly from Eagle. I've also seen a couple of sellers on EBay that carry replacement center caps but I can't rember the names.

Wendell, how much hp did you gain from the superchips tuner? Can you tell the difference between with and without it?

There is a slight improvement, but nothing radical. The only other performance mod I have is a K&N replacement air filter with the stock airbox drilled out. The Superchips would probably work better if I had a complete performance intake and a high flow exhaust.
