33's for 17's

I may decide to go with some 17's for more tire selection and less $$$. If so, what is the most aggressive, yet street friendly (quiet, good mileage, less effect on mpg, etc) 33" tire? Examples of what I'm thinking are BFG MT, Wrangler MTR, Buckshot Mudders, etc. If BFG AT's are the best, I'll just stick with my 18's and deal with the price.

most aggressive would be the muds- so the BFG MT, Wrangler MTR (do they make a big enough one for the 17"?), Cooper STT, the new ProComp Xtreme MT
if you go back up to 18's, the Toyo MT

still aggressive:
BFG AT (but friggin expensive), Nitto Terra Grappler, Cooper ST....

I'm looking at the 17's b/c they run $100 less/tire than with 18's. The best quote I've gotten for the Toyo's in 18's was $293/tire.

thats a little high, but actually decent for the 33x12.5R18 toyo oc MT's
17's are definitely cheaper!, make sure you test fit your new rims before you purchase to verify that they will clear the front brake calipers

I thought the problem with that came in the '05 models only. I'll check it out though.

I kept my 17 inch wheels and put Pro Comp 33x12.50R17LT AT tires on them and so far they have been amazing. The only problem with a small wheel and a big tire is that the ride gets really bumpy over 90 mph. The other down side is that they are really heavy. They will last 50 thousand miles, but they really hurt my zero to sixty. On the other hand, I have heard no noise out of them and they handle great. I don’t do a lot of off road, so I'm thinking about replacing them. I am capable of going over 100mp, but my tires will not let me.

you'll have much more to chose from for a 17" wheel opposed to an 18"

I just put on the Pro Comp Xtreme AT and the are great. They are good on the street, and any off-road condition. They look like they should be pretty noisy on the street but the road noise is very little. They also have the 40k mile warranty.

the right 33" tires for 17" wheels

Hello GA FX4. I recently put a 2.5" daystar leveling kit on my 07 fx4. I had the 285/70-17 bfg mud terrains installed. Personally i think they are great tires. A majority of my driving is on the rd but for 3 months out of the year Nov-Jan i need the mudders. They are pretty darn quiet. I recommend rotating them every 4000 miles. I like the 285's because they are not as wide as 33x12-17's meaning it puts less strain on the steering. Also with the wide tires your nice paint job will get ruined from mud, rocks and whatever you run over with your tires. the 285's are equivilent to 33x11.5-17 and they measure a true 33 inches. I have owned several different trucks and jeeps and i always have run the bfg mudders and i would never switch. Hope i was of some help to ya. Take care
Chris

Bukmastr144,
Are you still running the factory wheel with those tires? That is the size I am looking at but the factory 17" wheel makes the upper arm very close to the tire and I was concerned about going with a wider tire.

I just put 285/75//17 Toyo O/C A/T's on my truck, and they are awesome... I have pics, but cannot find my card reader:o

As soon as I do I'll post the pics, but for $844 for everything, I don't believe you can beat the O/C A/T's.
