Tire/Rims help for a dad looking for a xmas present for his son.

Hello everyone, great forum and group here. I was hoping to get some advice. My son has a 2005 F150 4x4 half rear doors with P255 70 R 17 factory tires and rims. The rims are shiny steel and not aluminum. He really wants new rims and nitto terra grappler tires for xmas. I don’t want to modify anything so what would I order for tire size and rim size? If there a link to a place I can order the rims and tires I’d really appreciate it. Thanks to all the experts and f150 guys here for helping me out. -Mark

Wandell of this forum should be able to help you. If he does not show up with some idea, you might try www.discounttire.com. Or, if you have a local Discount Tire store, give them a call. One other thing, you need to know if the intention is to keep the stock height on the truck. It makes a big difference if there are plans to raise it ir lower it. Hope all works out. I just had another thought. Since wheels and tires can be a very personal preferance as to what looks good, you might consider a gift certificate or cash designated for that purpose.

Cool Wheels and Tires

It all definatly depends on what height your going to have the truck at. Leveling kit? 6 inch lift? 8inch lift? As far as rim size, I recently purchased 20" x 8.5 KMC XD series Rockstars. They look awsome and I wrapped them with Pirelli Scorpion ATR's. I'll eventually get Kuhmo mud tires but for the quality of Pirelli tires and the price it is totally worth it. My stock tire size is P255/65/17, With my new wheels and tires are P275/55/20. Big diference. Depending if your son is like me ~ 19, does wild and crazy stuff, parties, loves extreme sports, then he will probably love the KMC wheel. Especially KMC XD series. But there are tons of diferent wheels out there, like moto metal, diablo, VCT, american racing. Its up to you to do the research. I'm sure you'll find a ton of stuff on wheels and tires from these forums.

This is the site that I bought my wheels and tires from. Really nice guys & Prices are cheap.

GOOD LUCK!

Hey guys thanks so much for the advice. I have no desire to change the height or suspension of the vehicle. I'm trying to determine what's the largest nitto tire and rim size that will fit the stock 4x4 height with no modifications.

I'd really suggest adding a 2 or 2.5 inch leveling kit up front. This will allow you to fit a 325/60-18 (33x13.00) tire on a 18x9 inch wheel (with 5.5 or 6 inches of backspacing). In my opinion, this is the best looking combo on a stock 4x4.

Wandell is our resident expert on wheels and tires. You can take his advice to heart.

I have to agree with Wandell (as usual), & to set your mind at ease, a 2.5" leveling kit will usually run less than $150-$175 & will give the truck a much better stance, (i.e. gets rid of the a$$ in the air look), as well as much more wheel/tire combos.
Happy Holidays,
P.S. Are you interested in adopting a 33 year old son who takes care of his own F150 Payments every month???

Wandell, Good suggestion but, if you were going to skip the leveling kit, what would you go with for new wheels and tires?

I'd stay with the same wheel and use a slightly smaller tire like a 285/65-18 (33x11.50) BFG AT KO.

Hi everyone and thanks so much the excellent advice. I’ve decided to go ahead and order these tires and rims per your recommendation. Since the tuck does some towing and hauling from time to time I felt uncomfortable altering the ride height or suspension components and since these tires are slightly wider and a ˝ inch taller then stock they’ll look good and not rub.
Discount tire direct.
(4) LT285/65R18E1 125R B Nitto Terra Grappler AT tires with
(4) 18X8.5 6-135 25MM MB Wheels Blitz wheels.

Nice choice CRF. That wheel/tire combo should look good. I looked at the Blitz wheel before deciding on my MB Motoring "Rocker" wheels.

Last Tuesday I put 295/70/17 Nitto TG's on my 2006 XLT 4x4 Screw/6.5' Bed with no lift. There was no rubbing at all. Plenty of room to spare. This was on stock wheels. Aftermarket wheels may have rubbed with no lift. A few days later I put in 1.5" AS coil-spacers. Completely changed the look of the truck. Can't wait to get some nice wheels! Want to adopt me for the Holidays??? I'd love to have a nice set of Mickey Thompson's under the tree. Merry Christmas.
