Tire to Gear Ratio Question?

I have a 2005 f150 with factory 3.73 gears, if I got the fabtech 6in lift 35's would be fine with these gears right? What about 36's? I plan on doings some performance mods to like edge, intake, exhaust, and maybe torque tubes, Could this add back the power I would loose cause of bigger tires? I checked out the gear to tire ratio on 4wheelparts.com and it shows 35's and 36's just to the left of fuel economy. What do you all think? And what have you all done, and how does it ride?

Thanks

I think you will be fine with 35's unless you tow/haul heavy loads a lot.

what about 36's? WOuld that make much differance? Also would I be able to clear the 36 x 13.5 with a 6in fabtech with coil overs? I wouldn't want to crack the coilovers all the way but maybe a little to help fit the bigger tires, would this work? I know there are some people on this site running 37 x 13.5 with the fabtech. How? Do they do alot of trimming and/or have rubbing? Or just cranking the coilovers down alot and having bad angles? Are the angles that bad with them cranked all the way?

Thanks

It's totally preference. I had 4.1s stock on my Ranger with a 29.5~ inch tire, went to a 31.6 inch tire and although it didn't kill the truck..I did certainly feel the loss.

In my F150 I went from 3.55 stock to 4.1 and from stock tires to something 7%~ taller... didn't really notice a loss in pwer from the tires, but the gears did help some. In your case a 4.56 would be optimal for performance reasons.

Everyone's butt dyno is different. I went form stock 32" tires to 33" and noticed the difference. Despite the 3.5% difference in size, the tire is 30% heavier.

A 35% tire is about 9% larger than stock 32" tires, and 36 is about 12.5% larger. 35" tires weigh about 65-70 pounds. Most people will notice that performance difference, especially if you're drive the stock truck for a while. Everuyone just has different levels of acceptability.

pisses me off that getting your gears done cost so much..

but if i were you id go with 4.56 ........ gain back power and less stress on the trucks factory components..

Thanks for all the advice and keep it coming. I just found a complete fabtech lift pretty cheap, I think. For details check this out: https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=259555

What I'll probably do if I get this lift, is just drive it with the 3.73s and 35's and see how it feels. I can always upgrade down the road.

Thanks
