question on wheel size

I have a 2005 F150 FX4, when I went to tire store to purchase rims, I was told that if I dropped down to 16" rims from 18" rims, it could mess up my transmission. What are the requirements/changes necessary for using 16" tires? I am looking at Buckshot Mudders and do not wish to make any mods that aren't absolutely necessary.

well you cant put a 16" rim on the new trucks do to the brake calipers, a 17" is the minimum you can put on it. as far as trany issues I dont see how it would hurt it but like I said 17" is the smallest you can go on the 2004-up.

16's will NOT fit, also some 17" wheels wont fit ether i had a buddy of mine that put in some 17's on his 05 and they would fit cuz of his calipers, so i recomend u staying with the 18!!! why would u want smaller wheels in the first place? (im not flameing you, just a question) just buy some 33's on ur stock wheels if u dont want to mod anything. J.M.O

only way you could mess up your tranny is if you have different tire sizes on your truck, like 2 left ones and 2 right ones different. Also could mess up your differential.

He may want a smaller wheel to get more sidewall for off-road stuff.

Thanks for everyone's help. I am planning on putting buckshot mudders on my truck and the price for 18" tires was ridiculously high. I can buy 16s or 17s and the tires for the same price as just 18" tires.

16's offer the best prices but you will only be able to fit 17's or larger but prices are still cheaper thats if you where planing on buying rim in the first place
