Steering wheel shakes with aftermarket wheels?
I have a new set of Weld Racing rims with new Bridgestone tires on my 05 F-150. I have had the tires balanced 3 times by three different companies and the steering wheel still shakes at 65-75mph. I have watched them balance the tires and it looks like they are fine but for some reason I still get that damn shake. Any ideas?

I just went from stock 17's to custom 20's and the shake actually got better with the new gear?!?! I'm just amazed at how smooth they ride. Even when I was on the test drive the steering wheel had a little shimmy even at slow speeds, I figured it was just the price I had to pay with getting a full sized truck. I upgraded from a Ranger and that thing drove like a car so I know it would be different. I'm guess the stock wheels were a little off or maybe a tire issue but either way it's all good with the new custom set-up.
I went from 255/65/17 to 275/55/20 and was expecting better handling but not a smoother ride. A nice pleasent surprise, I guess I'm lucky. I have heard horror stories of shake, rattle, and roll with 20's and up wheels. :o

I think 2004 Ford F-150's have a problem here. I have a stock 2004 F-150 that came with 18" wheels with no shimmy what so ever. I upgraded to stock 2006 20" Wheels and have the shimmy at around 65 MPH. These are factory balanced rims and tires. Anyone interested in a set of stock Lariat rims with BFG tires? very low milage, less than 500 miles?
