theres the metric reading and then an imperial unit that is used on some tires- most passenger and light truck tires are put in a 325/60-17 setting and some are put in a 33x12.5R17 format a 33" tire would be perfect for your situation. if you plan on putting a leveling kit on your truck, you can squeeze a 35" tire on there-

I think you'll find 285/70/17 to be the most common upsize with no other mods like torsion bars, trimming or even speedo recalibrating. I'm still waiting for my 285's to arrive, getting pissed, but am still going to use the recalibrator from Ford Motorsport. I'll never go back in size so might as well set things for 285's or 305's (one day maybe). I'll post pics when they get in.

I have factory 20's and am looking into either a pro comp or fabtech 6 in. lift - my question that falls along the same lines is whether or not it would look bad to put some 35 x 12.5 on the stock rims or if I should opt for aftermarket rims and just sell the stock 20's. They are king ranchers though, so I'd prefer to keep them....

Hey KY- you can go up to a 33" (33x12.5R18, 325/60R18 are two sizes of many) that will fit without a leveling kit. if you do have a leveling kit, you can fit up to 35" tires on there- as for reprogramming the PCM- you dont have to if you dont want to- your speedo/tach/odometers will be off slightly from jumping up to the 33 but nothing you cant deal with- if you jump to 35's obviously you scew the data a bit more, and you lose a bit of low end, accel power. and that can be regained with a tuner; which can also recalibrate your meters to match the tire size.
