Do I get 17s or 18s?

I have a white 05 (4x4) and right now I got the stock steel 17 in wheels. I am leaning towards getting Moto Metal 951s. I am not sure if I should get 17s or 18s? As far as tires go, I would get BFG AT, either 285/70/17 or 285/65/18. Would I have a problem with my speedo being off with the different tire size? And do you guys get a bigger spare tire when you change sizes?
Thanks, Eric

I have the 285/65/18 and I do not believe the speedo is off, and if it is it is not a noticeable amount. With the 285/65/18 were only an inch taller than the OEM tires that came with my FX4. A spare tire is only there so you can still drive while the defective tire is being fixed or replaced. I would vote no on a bigger spare. Especially since you would probally have to store it somewhere other than where the OEM spare is stored. I do not believe it can accomadate a much larger tire than is already in there.

I'd go with 18's. Ford changed brake calipers sometime during the 05 model year and this is causing fitment problems with SOME aftermarket 17 inch wheels. So, aftermarket 17's may not even fit you truck. Plus, if you decide to sell the aftermarket wheels later you won't have to worry about fitment if someone with an 06 or newer truck wants them.
