Retreads

Anyone using retreads?

The local Cooper dealer who sells a huge amount of retreads just switched their A/T pattern to the BFG A/T pattern. The owner is a friend and he said they just bought the mold from BFG. It is the exact tread pattern but it is the older style without the agressive sidewall.

Most sizes are avalible for $60.00

Any thoughts

These are my thoughts and mine alone about retreads. Based in fact, don't know, just my opinion.
Trucks use retreads a lot due to cost. You also see lot of these retreads on the road. That being said, if one of their's fail, it is one of 18. If one of yours fail, it is one of 4. When Firestone had their problem with tread separation, there were a lot of accidents due to driver errors when it happened. I just feel there is a better chance of a 4 wheel vehicle having an accident due to tire failure than a semi where there are 17 others to take up the load.
Just my $.02.

I agree. I would personally rather have a new "cheap" tire than a retread.

I should have mentioned that these would be only "winter tires" with little hiway miles on them. My Firestone Destination A/T are getting a little thin but are still usabile. I was thinking about keeping them going until next season when I could afford the new BFG AT KO. It would save me about $100.00 per tire.
