ABS issues

98 Ford Excab w/ 5.4

I purchased the vehicle 3 months ago and had to use the brakes hard on gravel. Noticed that there was no ABS, no vibration in the pedals, no sounds typical of abs, and a solid front skid with the front brakes.

so....... how can i tell if I have 4 wheel abs or just rear wheel abs?

Inspect your front knuckes for the presence of the ABS sensors. If there are no wire harnesses anywhere on the front knuckles, you have RABS. If there are wire harnesses, you have 4WABS.

Does your ABS light come on for a couple of seconds when the vehicle is first started?

This is the "normal" self-test.

I suspect you have RABS, in which case your observations are typical. Check for front ABS sensors to confirm which system is installed on your truck.

rear only ABS?

I put a set of aluminum (16x7 or whatever factory is) wheels on my '97 F-150, and now when I brake heavily on stops, the rear locks up--but usually only the rear pass. side. Any ideas?
