Decision Time - What brand tire to upgrade to?

Hi everone,

I've decided to throw 285/75 16's on my stock wheels and I need to get them within the next several days. I am debating between Nitto Terra Grapplers and Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S

As much as I'd love to, Revo's are not in the picture right now.

Currently I am running 255/70 16 Goodyear RTS (stock)

At this point, I would have to say my driving is 90% on road, 10% off road, but I would like to start playing in the dirt and mud a bit more.

The nittos are $50 cheaper.

So which to pick? I'm leaning towards the Nittos...

No doubt. I'd go with the Nitto's just because there is a ton of positive feedback on them praising them as one of the best all terrian tires available.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Yoko's are bad. I just havn't heard much feedback on them. The Nitto's are just a proven tire.

I know I will catch crap for saying this. I know Nitto's are made by Toyo... I had a set of Toyo open country AT's on my 2002 super duty 4x4 diesel they lasted all of about 27,000 miles. I was told they would last over 50k miles. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the Nitto Terra Grapplers basically the same as the Toyo AT's. From my experence I would not buy another set of tires made by Toyo. Just my 2 cents.

Nittos will not last like you hope. Put some Goodyear MTR's and rotate them. You will get 50000 out of them and they look better. Nittos look good on 20's not 16's.

Just my opinion though

I have just over 10,000 miles on my nittos and they look damn near new. I still have loads of tread left. A buddy of mine has them on his 04 and has put just over 40,000 on his and still has a decent amount of tread left to go.
IMO they are great tires and would recomend them to anyone looking for a good long lasting AT tire.

Matts FX4 is right. The Nitto's are made by Toyo and are basically the same tire as the Toyo Open Country AT. I hate that you had a problem with your Toyo's, but I guess everyone can produce a set of lemons every once in a while.

The Nittos look nicer for sure, with the combination of the good feedback and them being cheaper, cant go wrong.

I'll be in the market soon too, I'm grabbin some Bridgestone Dueler Revos though. (I get them at cost, nice connection within Firestone)

I bought a set of Yoko Geo A/Ts for both of my kids Jeeps. They are a nice tire for the money. Both of my kids seem to like them. But by looking at them they are not gonna come close to getting the mileage my Revos get. I'd say the Yokos will be lucky to get 40,000 miles.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I ended up ordering the Nitto's. For $532 shipped, they were the best bet.

On a side note, they are getting mounted Wednesday or Thursday...do I HAVE to trim the front valance, or should I?
