Would it be okay to run 285/75/17 on a 99 4x4 stock?

I think you mean 285/70-17's, but yes, they will fit easily.

to wandell i was wondering what the bigest tire i can run on a 2001 f150 sport and what would be the best size of rims to put on the same truck 17" or 16" by 8" if you could please help me i would appreciate it

If it's a 4x4, I'd suggest a 305/70-16 (33x12.50) tire on a 16x10 inch wheel with 4.5 inches of backspacing. You will have to trim a little plastic off the front bumper's lower valance to fit this combo.

what is the best size to fit on 16x8 or do u think 17x8 would be better

THe same size. I'd go with 16's personally or step up to 18's. For some reason there appears to be a better selection of 16 and 18 inch off road tires than 17's.
